Well, color me surprised. This one certainly came out of left field, but according to the Hot Toys Community Facebook group, Hot Toys has the G.I. Joe: Retaliation license for 2013. Hot Toys makes premium action figures in the 12″ scale, and I’ve spent quite a bit of time lamenting the fact that I can’t afford the excellent Avengers figures that have been coming out throughout 2012.
I may have to rethink some of my financial priorities going into 2013…these could be some insanely cool toys. These 12 inch figures typically retail for anywhere from $150 – $200 and have amazing actor likenesses and some incredibly uniform and accessory detail.
Big thanks to Todd from Kokomo Toys for the heads up. Check out the confirmation for yourself right here.
EDIT – Be aware this is just a Hot Toys fan page, this has not been officially confirmed as of yet. They seem to have their finger on the pulse of Hot Toys releases, so I think the information is still solid, but don’t take this as official confirmation.
EDIT #2 – The Image on Facebook apparently comes from the “Hot Toys Holiday Book” which is an official publication from Hot Toys, which means this information can be considered official.
Thanks to Jay Cochran on Twitter and EopieHerder on Twitter for educating my Hot Toys deficient mind on the particulars. I can assure everyone I’ll get much more educated on them in the coming months. 🙂
I wonder why Sideshow wouldn’t get this license? I really like their Joes and as much as I like Retaliation there is no way I’m going to pay over a hundred dollars for a Tatum Duke.
This is good, very good. I just hope they look like the Avengers and Dark Knight line and NOT the Biohazard 4 line.
Don’t count on anything until you see a preorder go up. And even then don’t expect any product around the time the movie comes out. Hot Toys has a record of announcing these licenses, showing off prototypes, taking preorders and then nothing shipping for several months after the movie comes out. The first Avengers figure, Nick Fury, didn’t hit retail until September if I recall correctly and the other figures announced are still slowly coming out with Cap just being released a week or so ago.
But I will say this is pretty good news. I like Hot Toys product and the quality is incredible and always getting better. I’m currently collecting the Iron Man and Avengers figures and a few others here and there. A movie G.I. Joe line will look good next to them and the Sideshow figures.
