And the crowd goes wild!
We’ve been getting flooded with some very cool Oktober Guard themed reveals over the past week or two, but many folks have been clamoring for more information about who the Oktober Guard will be facing off against.
Well, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club revealed that today with the Iron Grenadiers! We get a great revelation of the Iron Grenadier trooper himself and also some details about the story line itself. For folks who don’t recognize the figure itself, it was originally planned as part of 5 Pack of Iron Grenadier figures from the Rise of Cobra/Pursuit of Cobra line, but never got released. The image for that original 5-Pack can be seen at this post on GeneralsJoes. I’ve also mirrored that image below:
As for the story itself… check out those details below:
“By popular demand, the 2012 convention set stories and enemy factions are revealed…
OKTOBER GUARD Box Set: The 1990s brought us many captivating Cold War stories but this one was kept Top Secret for over two decades! Recently declassified documents revealed the original Oktober Guard (G.I. Joe’s Russian and Warsaw Pact equivalent) team’s “Special Mission” in Siberia to rescue their captured General from the ruthless Iron Grenadiers in OPERATION: BEAR TRAP!”
Okay…now THAT is bad ass. They give themselves an “out” for the dead Oktober Guard members by talking about declassified documents. And they’re also talking about their “captured General”… hmmm… could we see a modern version of General Mayhem from the 2005 set? Or maybe…dare I hope… Voltar?! Of course I misread this, and it’s the Oktober Guard general who is being rescued. Not sure what the angle is there…
Wow. The possibilities are endless! I cannot wait to hear and see more! Check out the Iron Grenadier figure below, and keep your eyes on GIJoeCon.com for the latest intel!
Called it! Right down to the unproduced IG 5-pack figures. Gotta say this makes me feel more confident getting the set. Hell I might even get a bagged set for the first time in ever.
Hell Justin you might have just revealed the rest of the Con sets IG team with this pic.
I’m still on the fence. I’m liking the Oktober Guard figures so far, and I like the LOOK of the IG, but the lack of leg poseability is kind of a turn off to me. Especially considering the price of a convention set.
This looks like its going to be a great set. I’m just stoked that the Oktober Guard is going to be out. Gives a whole new idea of who the sub-items might be like the General that the guard is suposed to rescue could be a possible item. I am a little conserned that the Grenadier figures might get short changed. Ok we now have an army builder but if the set contains 2 army builders which IG main character gets booted in place of another army builder in the slot if they use another canceled set character( I may have stated my point awkwardly but I’ll try to rephrase) would a second army builder take the place for say Darklon or Voltar. or will it be like the 2009 Crimson set where there are 3 main characters 4 of these IG shown and 2 of a new army builder.
That’s pretty badass, but I think I need to stay away from buying the 25th anniversary sculpt stuff. Too much to re-buy.
Good news! I have everything to sell! 😀
I could see us getting Sgt Mgr finally out of this and probablly 2 of the heavy gunners. That would leave one space left,Darklon,Scrap Iron,Voltar????
Definitely curious about the remaining characters in this set.
Hmm…”an ‘out’ for dead Oktober Guard members”. What, were some people gonna have a fit if the Club said this happened in 2012? “OMG. They deny the original Marvel continuity!” Really, the modern style convention sets have been about nostalgia more than breaking new ground, so no explination was really needed, but it’s fine. I just hope some people accept that other GI JOE continuities do and will exist and they just might use the original Oktober Guard characters past their “expiration date”.
Frankly, I’m just not sure why Justin is treating this like some huge revelation. The story pretty much has to take place prior to the breakup of the Soviet Union, and Daina is in her Marvel Comics costume. If it was going to take place in an existing continuity at all, it was obvious which one and that it’s a flashback.
That’s disappointing. I have no desire to have those IGs. What we got at retail was far superior. I’d rather they give us some of the IG troops that haven’t gotten updates.
It appears as the Iron Grenadiers are using Techno-Viper legs instead of the regular Resolute CC legs.
I’m disappointed that they kept the same color scheme. A more arctic camo would have been much better.
The only one I like is the Resolute Destro IG. The others have way too much brown!
Nope, those are the legs from the Battle Armor Cobra Commander figure (or the 25th IG, which used those too).
‘Course none of that matters, ’cause that skirt pretty much makes the legs useless! It’s a neat looking figure, but he won’t be taking many cool poses.
