Never Forget – A Safe and Peaceful Memorial Day from GeneralsJoes

We can get so wrapped up in the trials and tribulations of our fake army men, that we can often forget what the real men and women who put on that uniform go through on a daily basis and that way too many of them never return to their homes or families.

Not only on this day, but every day, it’s important to remember those people and to honor them for their sacrifices.

Hopefully we can one day live in a world where we can “recall” all of our real life military heroes as well as the plastic children’s toys, but until that point, I thank all of the men and women of the military who fight every day to maintain our safety and freedom, and honor all of those who have lost their lives doing the same.

Six reasons why the G.I. Joe: Retaliation delay is not the end of the world

I’m going to try very hard not to be melodramatic, but I will say over the past few days there has been a lot of thinking, analysis, and a lot of talking out the recently revealed issues with the G.I. Joe: Retaliation film.  From a fandom perspective, we were all so geeked out and so fired up about what we saw in the trailers, it was easy for us as a collective group to ignore any potential that the film might not live up to our lofty expectations.

I think we were all so certain this film couldn’t possibly fall below the standard set by G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, when word started coming out that early screenings revealed some potential issues with the film’s quality, combined with the nine month delay and rumors of product recalls, the sudden chaos brought by all of the combined changes has thrown the fandom for a loop.  There has been quite a bit of discussion, and yes quite a bit of rage out there, and frankly, it’s hard to say it’s not justified.

But I’ve been doing quite a bit of introspection myself over the past couple of days, and as folks have come to expect from the site, I’d like to offer a rosier outlook than many have been discussing (here on GeneralsJoes certainly included).

Yes, the film is being delayed.  Yes, quite a bit of product will not see store shelves in 2012.  But, no this is not the end of the world.  Read on to read my thoughts.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation screening report from KERN Radio – Spoilers Ahoy

So last night I put out the call, and I had some great responders who listened to the KERN Radio segment on AICN last night in order to get some details about the apparent reaction to the G.I. Joe: Retaliation screenings.

From the sounds of “Caller X” and his feedback from the film…well, it sounds like things weren’t good.

In fact, it’s sounding more and more likely that there will be some reshoots done over the next nine months in order to bring Duke back to life.  At this point it’s unknown whether these reshoots will also make drastic changes to the script or film itself, but something tells me they’re not going to do anything dramatic.  I’m not sure if 9 months is quite enough time to change things significantly, especially if the stars filming schedules don’t allow it.

For Spoiler sake, I’ll keep the actual reports after the jump.  You can read them below.  THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW.

AICN Contributor discusses G.I. Joe: Retaliation screening on radio show tonight!

Well, I gotta admit, this is way past my bedtime, but I’m hoping maybe someone might want to take one for the team here…  tonight, “Hercules”, a representative from Aint It Cool News will be recording a radio show entitled “Ask Dr. KERN”.

Hot on the heels of the delay of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Hercules will apparently be talking tonight to someone who actually saw one of the initial screenings for G.I. Joe: Retaliation!  I would assume they will be talking up the details and hopefully getting to the bottom of things…was the film really bad, or is it just a competition type of thing?

The show airs from 8:00pm Pacific through 10:00pm Pacific tonight, so I’m counting on some GeneralsJoes readers to tune in and report!  You can listen to the show live at KernRadio.com so I’m hoping someone might want to check it out and write down some notes.

If you do get some intel, please feel free to email it in to me and I’ll get a story posted about it!  I’m dying to hear more information about the screening and its potential positives and negatives, but I don’t see myself making it through 1:00am Eastern tonight, so any assistance would be great.

Or heck, if you just want to listen yourself, check it out KernRadio.com, and the full details can be found on AICN itself.  A  big thanks to Russ Sheath for the heads up!

Variety goes into unusual detail about G.I. Joe: Retaliation toy troubles

I must say I was pretty surprised when I saw this article emerge on Variety.com.  Variety typically covers the film industry, but upon news of the delay of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the site decided to explore a little bit about the retail side of things.

And the retail side of things sounds like a mess for Hasbro as we suspected.  According to Variety, retailers are being asked to ship G.I. Joe: Retaliation product back…although whether this is merely a request or a directive is not yet clear.  Variety also reached out to retail management, and was told point blank that they likely would not order the G.I. Joe product line in as large a number next March, simply because summer films do better business.

It’s an interesting article, and it’s rare that a mainstream Hollywood site goes into this type of detail when it comes to the toys.  Heck, they even mention how torqued off the hardcore fans are, and they mention JoeCon.

Definitely worth a read.  Check it out right here.
