Okay! It’s photo dump time! I’m sitting in Grand Central Station right now with my camera card chock full and ready to upload. I apologize for the lack of organization right off the bat, but I’m trying to get this done nice and quick-like so I can make a train back home. This is how things are laid out.

Spring, 2011 Assortments

As I create the SuperPage, I’ll break up the assortments into their waves, but for now, here’s what I’ve got for the spring assortments, including

– Cobra Commander

– Cobra Trooper

– Iron Grenadier

– Rock Viper

– Techno Viper

– General Hawk

– Steel Brigade

– Crazylegs

– Croc Master

These look to be a very nice mix of existing tooling with some nice new paint applications really bringing these figures to life. Some awesome use of some Pursuit of Cobra molds, the Jungle Assault Cobra Commander looks to be the base for Cobra Commander, and some terrific other paint jobs. Iron Grenadier is even sporting the unused Stedi-Cam from Destro. The Cobra Viper (using the Shock Trooper tooling) is pretty impressive as well. Images below.

Fall, 2011 Assortment “30 for 30”

A very interesting way to put it, Derryl DePriest referred to the Joe line starting in 2011 as a “30 for 30” line, meaning a plethora of figures from different eras and concepts in one single “rebranded” line. From the images, there is an obvious Pursuit of Cobra theme, which suits me perfectly fine.

He mentioned a smaller volume, but a much tighter “concentration” of fan favorites and well conceived figures, very similar to what we’ve seen this year. From my first hand perspective, these figures look fantastic. They have really merged the Renegades look with the realistic tooling to near perfection, especially with Firefly and Cobra Commander. Note the full mask!

This just comprises the first wave, hitting in August of 2011, so expect more reveals at JoeCon and SDCC.

Bravo Vehicles

We got no real details on waves for these, so I assume they might be hitting all at once. We’ve got a great crimson HISS with a re-conceived Elite-Viper driver. The VAMP Mark II has an absolutely fantastic looking “Steel Brigade Delta” figure. Didn’t get to see the pilot of the Black Dragon.

SDCC Zarana

Derryl admitted this was an “oopsie”. Zarana probably shouldn’t have been showcased, because she is NOT A DEFINITE FOR SDCC. They are still weighing their options to see if they can get both Zarana and the Starscream Skystriker. If not, the Skystriker will win out. If they can’t get Zarana for SDCC, she will ABSOLUTELY hit in the main line somewhere.

Skystriker

It looks gorgeous. Feels like it was pulled right from 1983. Awesome colors, black tail fins and some great detail. Not much else to say.

I get a really good feeling, looking at these toys. It’s quite clear that the G.I. Joe line is not their central priority this year (which makes sense, given Transformers 3, Captain America, Thor, and Clone Wars) but they are taking the resources they have and doing some amazing things with it. The Cobra Trooper, while a simple repaint, looks INSANE. Same with General Hawk and the Iron Grenadier. Holy crap they look cool up close and personal.

And the Renegades figures? I wasn’t sold at first with seeing them in a realistic style, but it really works. Firefly especially looks astoundingly cool.

So, in short, don’t expect huge volumes of product, but it sure looks like the Pursuit of Cobra mantra is alive and well, and the long time vintage fans are getting some serious bones thrown their way, too. Very, very good stuff.
