I know this figure has been out there for a while now, but I wasn’t really content to review it as a whole without the jacket that makes it so much of a more imposing and cool looking arctic figure.
Well, thankfully, long time friend of the site notpicard came through in a big way, and we’ve got the one and only review on the ‘net for the “Arctic Threat” Duke including his evasive arctic jacket!
I’ve got him uploaded to the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page, and you can check out the review directly right here!
Notpicard is also a regular contributor to excellent G.I. Joe resource site JoeIntel.com, so make sure you put them in your favorites and visit early and often. I can guarantee you, no matter how long you’ve been collecting you’ll find some damn cool stuff there that you never knew existed.
Any idea how the rest of us could get our hands on a jacket?
It’s amazing what a jacket can do! I mean really!
If we could all get this jacket we’d have world peace!
(fails to understand why a toy exhudes this much elation from an adult much less a jacket)
I am desperate to acquire the Arctic Duke head.
I realize that sounds unlikely…
It’s the cap that makes me want it; I can use it to make a Sigma-style Tunnel Rat.
Anyone else think it would be a REALLY cool idea for them to release basic environmental figures and then sell accessory packs that have lots of different specific-environment related gear and several different heads of well known Joes?
That way you just buy the basic figure several times and the accessory pack and viola! You have the main Joes in an Arctic theme, Desert theme, etc.
So much better than having one or two random guys here and there. And it’d be cheap for Hasbro to produce.
Back on topic : Looking forward to getting this figure. Thinking about buying like three dozen…show my support for them not using the (censored) ROC moron’s head.
Hawkwinter, that’s a brilliant idea. I would be all over such sets.
Hawkwinter that was brought up in a Q&A by Hisstank, I think in 2008. They said they would consider it, at that’s as far as it got.
I think it would be a good idea, I mean if everyone is going gaga over a jacket imagine an accessory pack with jackets, weapons, gear and a head. Kinda like the old days in the ARAH line?
Yes, it would sell, but Hasbro isn’t interested in hearing what will sell. They’re more interested in telling us how they’re right and how they’re going to make us like what they say.
I also wonder about Hasbro’s “decision making” at times.
I simply cannot fathom why they didn’t throw in a single carded Viper with corrected arms and silver faceplate at the end of the 25th run. Everyone was pissed off they screwed it up the first time and so they go through all the effort of fixing the arms but then still do not release the figure via mass market. It’s mind boggling. (Yes I am aware of the Hall of Fame version, but that’s not a general release item)
Back to the accessory packs. Today’s accessories are light years ahead of what we had in the early days, I would sooooo buy them….well, as long as they don’t come in the standard one color scheme like back in the old days…lol
Not only that, but why don’t they release the Viper 5 pack. Or the BAT 5 pack. Or an Eel 5 pack. Or an Alley Viper 5 pack. Why don’t they take Zap, Tunnel Rat, Chuckles, Recondo, Dr. Mindbender, Ripcord, and dozens of others and put them on ARAH cards?
Why don’t they Take the Sgt Slaughter, Mutt, Spirit and Barbecue, repaint them and sell them as the Slaughter’s Marauders set? Or why not take Duke, Flint, Bazooka, Recondo and Roadblock, repaint them and sell them as a Tiger Force set?
We constantly hear that molds are expensive, repaints are necessary, etc, etc. We understand. But when you have notstalgic fans dry for a year and Hasbro saying they are “trying” to find ways to toss a bone to them and the tooling and molds are ALREADY made, it truly boggles the mind and makes one wonder who’s making all of these stupid decisions and missing all of these golden opportunities?
A-men, brother Alpine! You said it. 🙂
Also agree with Hawkwinter too. Both sound ways of thinking.
As an aside – not everyone was pissed about the initial Viper release. I have no problem with the arms at all.
No, not everyone. Just Fogger..
