With a big thanks to MSGiJoe Collectors’ Club Facebook page and The Terror Drome for informing us that Webisode Two for Operation: H.I.S.S. has been posted! It can be seen on MonkeybarTV right here. Taking queues from the Pursuit of Cobra concept, it’s obviously based in the Rise of Cobra universe, this episode features the debut of Recondo and mention of a Cobra Terror Drome.
Now, we all know it’s no great shakes, but this episode wasn’t quite as cheesy as the last one. It was still far from perfect, but it’s not terrible. Compared to something like Resolute…well… we don’t need to go there.

Along with Webisode Two, there’s also a feature focusing on Operation: HISS Duke, with some nice Accelerator Suit action. Check that 56 second feature right here. Yeah, this stuff even makes the Rise of Cobra film look like oscar material… bring on the IDW Operation: HISS comic! That’s the post-Rise of Cobra storyline I’m sticking with.

Anyone else miss Resolute yet?
missing Resolute BIG TIME.
I guess I’m alone in thinking these little monthly webisodes are a nice touch for Hasbro’s Website. My kids really like them, (And I think that’s who it’s made for).
As for a new animated series, yeah……some more of RESOLUTE would be welcome, but hey, at least G.I.JOE is back so Thanks HASBRO!
G.I.Joe isn’t back. It’s playing one episode a month online temporarily. Hasbro has made it clear they want to steer the direction of the line away from Rise of Cobra. That’s cool that your kid likes them though TK.
Resolute sucked, even Larry Hama was negative towards it, and he supported Rise of Cobra. I’m glad it’s over and behind us.
Onto Operation H.I.S.S., the first webisode was slow and expository but this one is definitely a step up. The voices are decent, whoever did Heavy Duty and General Hawk imitated the actors’ voices nicely, and the action flows nicely. Looking forward to future installments, I just wish the credits didn’t always take up half the video’s time.
“bring on the IDW Operation: HISS comic! That’s the post-Rise of Cobra storyline I’m sticking with.”
Hrn… you know I was really looking forward to that one, but the first issue is just incredibly underwhelming.
Dunno if you’ve read it yet so I’ll avoid spoiler details.
Another thing that I should note, is that Operation :H.I.S.S. looks like it took a lot of cues from the Rise of Cobra Video Game. Even the Jungle outpost looks like it came from the ROC Game, Maybe it’s meant to????
While I respect your opinion about Resolute Jay, that’s pretty much all it is, an opinion. For what it’s worth, it’s one in the minority. And don’t be so sure we’ve seen the last of it. Jeff Labovitz recently stated that the Resolute 7-Packs would be sold at all major online retailers. The fact that Duke, Cobra Commander and Snake Eyes are included in the sets also means it’s not just intended for collectors. It’s to entice kids as well. You must also not forget that Eric Buzza who voiced Tunnel Rat in Resolute was asked to return to audition for the role of Tunnel Rat for the new cartoon. He saw an animated cel of Tunnel Rat and said he pretty much looked like his Resolute version, with slight modifications.
Operation Hiss is something temporary, only 12 cartoons I think. And it is is without ANY doubt that Rise of Cobra is what Hasbro is currently wanting to steer away from, seeing how Operation Hiss was pushed onto an online cartoon and of course the recent changes to the toys.
As for Larry Hama, I really don’t care what the man endorses or talks down to. He was paid to endorse Rise of Cobra, he wasn’t for Resolute. He can’t name 25 Joes off the top of his head without looking at a list. He’s doing the comics again and with all of the hoopla out there for Rise of Cobra from about 50 people tops, he’s actually doing a comic based in the ARAH universe. Just because he created the characters 25+ years ago, doesn’t mean he cares about it, so what he endorses with a paycheck is really moot.
You’re right TK. It is from the game. The game was intended to branch out and expand the Rise of Cobra universe, taking it to the next level. Before the changes, Pursuit of Cobra was the same thing. Recondo looks identical to his character from the Rise of Cobra universe and so does Firefly. It’s all the same thing except Rise of Cobra did horrible at retail and Hasbro is removing likeness of actors to save money and to make it appeal to collectors as a more unique line. But it was all intended to be the next level of Rise of Cobra and the same thing.
Bwahahahaha.
Your hate-on for Rise of Cobra is hilarious.
Do you even have sources for all your claims that Larry was “paid” to like ROC, or that ROC products sold horribly?
Hasbro never sticks to the same thing. They want their brands to evolve and appeal to as many as possible. This is why Transformers: Animated and the Michael Bay films were so different. Hasbro’s veering away from the movie verse because they want to focus on future things, like the new cartoon and a more “catch-all” line.
Revenge of the Fallen did half a gazillion dollars between box office numbers and toy sales, and yet their new projects are Generations (a fan-pleasing line of classic characters), Power Core Combiners (a gimmick line) and a generic Transformers series which will feature movie character and new characters that don’t fit in any one aesthetic style. They’re not sticking to just one cash cow.
It’s called “brand evolution”.
It’s why Duke’s likeness is being changed. It’s why the new packaging doesn’t feature the ROC logo.
As far as Eric Bauza… he’s a voice actor. He does voices. If he can do a character well, why can’t he do it in a different show? Susan Blu did Arcee in Transformers Animated, in spite of the character being quite different from how she was in the classic cartoon. Tom Kenny did many voices in Transformers Animated, and did Skids and Wheelie in Revenge of the Fallen. Good voice actors get work, it’s how it goes. Michael Bell auditionned for General Hawk in this new toon… does that mean the new cartoon will be exactly like the old Sunbow show?
Yes, that was massive amounts of suck.
Please Hasbro, bring back Resolute.
See you in January Jay! Drinks on you!
January was two months ago.
Also, I don’t drink.
Jay, January 2011 is when the new cartoon debuts…
Cocoa is usually good in the winter, you like cocoa?
I must be missing something because the episode 2 I am getting takes place in the arctic?
Looks like the Monkeybar web monkey put the wrong episode up initially. This Ep. 2 makes more sense because the Joes were getting dropped off in the arctic in Ep. 1.
Hawk sounds like Buzz Lightyear. And somehow CGI Duke seems so much more alive than Channing Tatum.
There’s not much to these quality-wise but the characters have got a likability factor to them that I felt Resolute severely lacked.
Yes they screwed up and episode 2 is now 3. Plus there is a Pursuit of Cobra game now.
