The Pursuit is still on! Hasbro Press Release confirms fall lineup for G.I. Joe

HASBRO’S G.I. JOE BRAND EMBARKS ON ITS NEXT MISSION AS THE ICONIC TOY LINE SETS IT’S SIGHTS ON “THE PURSUIT OF COBRA” IN 2010

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (February 12, 2010) – Yes, “knowing is half the battle.” But in 2010, the other half of the battle is getting your hands on the latest G.I. JOE action figures and vehicles! As excitement for last summer’s blockbuster movie G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA remains high, Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS) launches a new line of G.I. JOE toys that captures the passion and exhilaration that have been a signature part of the brand for more than 45 years.
In 2010 THE PURSUIT OF COBRA line finds the heroic G.I. JOE team on the heels of the evil and menacing COBRA organization. Beginning in the fall, the G.I. JOE brand embarks in THE PURSUIT OF COBRA in four new battlegrounds: Desert, City, Jungle and Arctic. The new convoy of toys includes covert and technologically advanced 3-¾-inch action figures and vehicles themed to these new assignments. The vehicles are outfitted with surprise attack features and hidden weapons systems and are designed to traverse a wide range of terrains. The vehicle line also includes an updated version of the H.I.S.S. Tank, the iconic vehicle from the 1980s G.I. JOE vs. COBRA saga. THE PURSUIT OF COBRA line will also feature a new packaging look that blends classic elements from the brand’s iconic 1980s era with a modern, high-tech aesthetic that embodies the near-future global fantasy.
In addition to highly articulated new action figures and awesome vehicles, staples of the iconic brand, the G.I. JOE toy line introduces two new expressions in 2010. The new G.I. JOE 3-3/4-inch MOBILE MECH Suits feature an exclusive figure and give kids the opportunity to customize new high-tech action figure armored suits to their own specifications. For fast action play the new G.I. JOE 3-3/4-inch RIP ATTACK Vehicles feature a rip launcher to send these new vehicles on their way into the next G.I. JOE vs. COBRA mission.
Hasbro’s licensing program will also continue to support the G.I. JOE brand in 2010 with innovative, entertaining products across multiple categories, including publishing with a series of comic books from IDW as well as a variety of seasonal items.
Yo Joe!

The countdown to Toy Fair…

…so I’ve ended my Toy Fair prep by sitting through the 3 minute premier episode of Operation: HISS, and I’m about ready to hit the road first thing tomorrow morning. I’ve absconded with my office Blackberry for the trip, so expect some updates during the voyage on my Twitter Feed.  I’m not sure I’ll be doing much tweeting from the event itself, just because I’d rather focus on the material (though there will be time during the Star Wars presentation…who gives a crap about Star Wars, anyway?).
So, even if my pic uploading might be a bit sporadic, I’ll try to at least offer some insight and content via Twitter and hopefully when the pics show up, they’ll be worth the wait.  I may not be the fastest, but hopefully I can try and be the best.
There are a lot of admins and webmasters out there who attend these shows as part of their jobs…  to me, this is what being a fan is all about.  I’m thrilled that I have the opportunity to go to Toy Fair every year, and I’m just plain psyched to see what’s in store.  Something tells me my enthusiasm will show through.  Hope the product meets my expectations…and all of yours as well.

Quick review of Operation: HISS Webisode #1

Heh…in the last post I mentioned a month was a long time to wait for a follow up to a 5 minute webisode.  Turns out, the action itself only took just over 3 minutes.  Overall impression?  About what you’d expect for a direct-to-website feature catered to kids.  It’s done in CGI animation, purely computer models, and they looked like they were pulled from the cut scenes of the console game (which isn’t necessarily a good thing).  Some choppy animation, some stilted voice acting, and nothing that will really make the long time fans go crazy.  Definitely not G.I. Joe’s best side.
I still kinda dig seeing the movie universe further explored (especially since it would appear it’s vanishing entirely from store shelves with this G.I. Joe “reboot” this fall), but the end result did not blow my skirt up, which is really saying something when coming from this fanboy.  Regardless, I’ll be waiting the first Friday of every month just to see what’s next.
On the positive side, we did get some cool intel when the credits rolled!  I’ve mirrored some screen shots below, including a shot of the voice credits, which indicate that some other characters will be appearing in the series like Recondo, Helix, and Snow Job!  I’ll check out further installments just for that.
A fun way to spend a few minutes, but don’t expect Beast Wars or Starship Troopers…  the gallery is below.
