Arctic Shipwreck will be a must-have for my arctic loving self but Day-Glo Doc I’m gonna pass on. Unless he has some awesome accessories that I can not live without.
TRU right?
Sure, let me pay $7 or 8 dollars for repaints, yaaay.
These should be at Walmart for $5 dollars or at Target for $3.49.
That’s gotta be one miserable parrot.
Wow….and the crap continues to hit store shelves. Arctic Shipwreck…..stop and really think about that for a bit. And while yes, it is concievable that he might end up in the arctic for one reason or another…what kind of a sick s.o.b. would bring his tropical parrot along??? And like it was said above, Day-glo Doc is a definate pass. At least Shipwreck is a possible purchase for custom fodder.
Where’s our PoC? I want that Ripcord darn it!
I’d have been all over the Shipwreck if it came with his Sigma 6 monkey!
I have been trying to find some sort of interest in Hasbro’s current assortments of product, but ever since City Strike Duke and the Desert Viper (or whatever) came out I just cannot find any personal interest in new product. I guess I really am old if I ain’t finding myself at the target of this market.
Glow-In-The-Doc & Iceburg-Wreck do not excite me.
Doc comes with Firefly’s comic pack demolitions pack and gear. If he can’t amputate with the wire cutters, then the C-4 will blow the leg off.
Doc’s color are a bit bright but maybe that outfit could work more if he was conducting rescue operations in the waters off the northeastern United States in Winter.
Hmmm….see now Eduardo’s post has me thinking. Maybe some over-ambitious Hasbro employee decided they could save money by not making their own backstories. Instead, they would create really odd figures…like let’s say a super-brightly suited Doctor with explosives gear and a wise-cracking sailor with his tropical parrot in Arctic gear and leave it to the fans to spend weeks (or months) trying to come up with their own backstory that could make some sort of sense out of all this.
i agree with Alpine, having to pay the TRU price does suck a bit. but i have to consider two things when it comes to the current line and why ill get doc and shipwreck.
A. thanks to WMs $5, TRUs 2 for $10 sales, Target’s new price matching and $3.50…of the 25 or so RoC singles ive bought, all but maybe 4 were priced at $5. so im really ahead, from a certain point of view.
B. ive never been happier collecting figures. when the 25th line hit in ’07, Joe became the ONLY line ive wanted to collect. (granted hurricane Katrina didnt help my SW collections at all)
im a sucker. i know it. my wife knows it. now you all know it.
and knowing is apparently half of my money!
Thanks for the support Hawkwinter. See kids, its up to us fans to cover any boo-boos in the imagination of the Hasbro people.
all the targets around me took their prices back up to $7.99
im a sucker. i know it. my wife knows it. now you all know it.
and knowing is apparently half of my money!
Hasbro knows it too gung.heaux!
When the toys are on discount at Walmart and Target, many collectors are loyal enough to get in the car, burn out their gas and drive to the nearest TRU to buy a repaint for $8 dollars. Is it really any wonder that they don’t seem to bother with interacting or putting much effort to make product that appeals with the collectors anymore?
I’d rather buy a Flash or even a Desert Ambush Duke for an Ambush custom at Walmart for $5 dollars than pay $8 dollars for a repainted and frankensteined Joe with a WW2 rifle and a tropical parrot geared for arctic adventures.
Really, who designs these and comes up with the ideas?
Alot of Targets are putting these down to $3.49. Whichever Targets are actually putting the price back up to $7.99 are really showing stupidity and have forgotten last fall already.
If the stuff didn’t sell with a movie at the box office for $7.99, why would it sell now in the spring without a movie or a cartoon to push it for $7.99??
@ Alpine
my decision to buy them, regardless of my reasons, is, as it should be, just as valid as your decision to not buy them, regardless of your reasons.
im simply enjoying myself, not attempting shift hasbro’s
mass perception of collecting.
@ alpine
my desision to buy these figures is just as valid as yours is to not buy them.
im not trying to sway hasbro’s perception of the collector’s desires……im just enjoying myself.
CRAP! reloaded the page and even logged off the entire internet, relogged, and STILL didnt see my original response!!
sorry Mr. Pine! didnt mean to repeat that response!
Not a problem with the double post cajun. And I never said your reasons for wanting them weren’t valid. I pointed out that people will buy a Joe for $8 dollars–a repaint nevertheless–while the line is on discount for $5 dollars at Walmart and $3.49 at Target.
I see alot of people wondering why Hasbro doesn’t really care to interact that much with the collectors in the Q&A’s. This is one good reason why.
I don’t fault you for liking something and wanting. Just that if your willing to pay full price for it while it’s on clearance everywhere else and it’s a repaint and nothing new, Hasbro sees that and they’re not going to be inclined to go to any great lengths to answer requests or put much thought into future product if you’re already going to buy whatever they put out anyway.
In a way, I guess you can’t blame them.
It’s also why they don’t seem too bothered with giving fans their requests (more 25th, a Resolute line or a Rise of Cobra Breaker in reactive armor with eyepiece.
They’ll do a repaint, we’ll buy it, so why bother to spend the money to make something new when we’ve already given them our money?
They have our money, so why bother to put any effort into pleasing it’s collectors?
I don’t fault you for liking it though. I bought up 2 of the TRU Snow Serpents and 2 of the TRU Firefly.
Just putting things into perspective.
mr. pine,
our passions for this hobby and specifically towards GI Joe are certainly equal. however, the focus of either’s passion is clearly not the same, yet neither diminished.
Alpine, are you a MOCer? if you are, then it clearly explains our different viewpoints.
Again, I never said they weren’t equal. Never said they were diminished.
I said when we all go out to spend $8 dollars for a toy that is a repaint when toys from the line with their own mods and tooling are on discount for $5 or $3 dollars, Hasbro sees this and it’s little wonder why they don’t seem to bother to interact with us in Q&A’s or give fan resquested figures like 25th Dial Tone and Lowlight, a line dedicated to Resolute or Rise of Cobra Breaker in RA with eyepiece.
My point is pretty simple and clear.
And no. I’m not a MOCer.
i know what you said….lord knows you typed it out three separate times.
i was merely saying that you and i seem to view our hobby from two different angles. quite frankly, you seem to take this hobby more seriously than i do. some collectors make a hardcore attempt to perpetuate their collections, hitting stores on a daily basis, sometimes paying ebay prices to fill in gaps, pre-ordering online as to not miss a specific item…etc. others just hit the aisles when we’re near them…hoping for the best results at that given time.
you, mr. pine, leave me with the impression that your attitude towards collecting tends towards the hardcore.
im more casual friday in my collecting attiude.
and here here to your call for a fully-geared RiA Shaz!
and let me add…wheelchair, uniformed hawk!
Mountain Dew & Twizzlers – primary food items for the hard core toy collector!
Oh yeah, Shipwreck & Doc – not so much, I’ll pass.
Actually gung.heaux I’m not a hardcore collector. I only collected the 25th stuff, the first time I bought Joes since 1987.
And at that, I only bought the ones I liked.
And now I’m not buying anything Joe related, except a couple of the 12 in stuff. I’m buying He-Man from Mattel and little Star Wars. So Hardcore isn’t the word that comes to mind when describing my collecting habits, most certainly Joe.
I’m waiting for Toy Fair and Joe Con to determine whether or not I will ever buy another Joe again.
I’m afraid you’ll have to keep wishing for RA Shaz and Wheelchair Duke. I’d say why, but like you said I’ve already typed it out 3 times.
