I know there’s been some dead time with the reviews, but I’ve got a bunch in the hopper that I’m just going to kind of get out there whenever I can. First up are reviews of the Toys “R” Us Headquarters for Heroes Bench Press and Snow Serpent. I expected to love Bench Press (and did), but the Snow Serpent took me a little bit by surprise. Check out both reviews at the Rise of Cobra review page, or the links below.

That Snow Serpent absolutely rocks! I need to get to my TRU and pick up a few. Thanks for the review.
I knew you’d would change your mind about him, Great Reviews as always!
I admit, when I saw the first pics of Bench Press I thought that was the stupidest thing I’d ever seen.
A chainsaw!?! C’mon!
Don’t get me wrong, I got the joke. Original Rock ‘N Roll was more like one of the Beach Boys, Bench Press is supposed to be more of a BA hard-rocker. Sort of Henry Rollins’ self-image. Ooookay.
But I got over my misgivings when I actually saw it in person. It’s actually one of the rare figures who’s appearance lends more to establishing his character than any file card can.
My Bench Press isn’t a machine gunner,…he’s a machine gun. Hawk points him at the bad-guys and Cobras fall over. He’s Snake Eyes minus the kung fu (he dosen’t need it). Listen to any of the scenes where Colonel Trautman describes John Rambo to some hapless schmuck in the first three “First Blood” movies, and you’ve got Bench Press.
I just picked up the pair and love them both. Bench Press I have decided is Rock ‘n Roll’s Cousin (they are named after the same ancestor) The thing I like best about Bench Press is he looks like he is going zombie hunting, shotgun-check, chainsaw-check, hatchet-check, yep he is a zombie hunter or would be if there were any in my Joeverse. HMM… do Toxo-zombies count? 🙂
I like the cousin angle.
For me, Bench-Press is a drill sgt for team. Bench Press, Beach-Head, and Sgt Stone share training duties. Bench-Press focuses on strength and hand to hand combat while Beach-Head handles other forms of PT and Stone handles weapons and tactics.
Didn’t someone call Bench Press a murder specialist? I really like the Snow Serpent but that Pulse rifle really doesn’t fit into his hand. I wish they included the AK-47, heck they should’ve; the first TRU exclusives were loaded with accessories.
That was me, Chuckdawg! He’ll always be Joes Murder Specialist to me. Why else would an obvious heavy machine gunner carry a chainsaw and a hatchet? I mean, if Predetor has taught us anything, it’s that a minigun can totally mow down a forest! So Bench Press sure ain’t gona need the saw ‘n axe to do no lumber fellin’!
They should’ve named him Bench Saw or Drill Press. The accessories, while welcome, really suck for him though. He needs a flak jacket, SAW rifle and a few ammo boxes along with a Joe-ified version of the SAW-Viper helmet.
More franken-joes and repaints…..hooha!
While some of the accessories are a bit baffling, I really really like Bench Press. If they can keep re-using parts to make new Joes and Cobras of this quality, I won’t complain.
I think he looks like a pro-wrestler, like, maybe Stone Cold Steve Austin. I wonder if this is some advance info on casting for the Joe sequel…
I like to tell people that the strength of G.I.Joe as an action movie is the fact that you really can do ANYTHING and it would not really be out of context for the movie. And if Ripcord can be a Wayans, Rock N Roll can be a wrestler.
