So tonight’s the big night…midnight premiers all over the country to launch G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA. It’s been a long, strange trip filled with hills, valleys, bumps and bruises, but for better or worse, the movie is here. I’ll be very interested to read reactions, opinions, thoughts, and feelings, so let me know what you liked, what you didn’t like and if it was anything like you expected.
Even more important than many of our thoughts, though, is how the public as a whole embraces the film and what kind of money it makes. I’ll be keeping a close tab and will be updating the site as appropriate. Lets hope for some big numbers to catapult our favorite toyline back into the public eye once again!
I am getting dressed for the movie. I am going to Cinerama here in Seattle, WA. Going to see it 16 times. Midnight, 5 shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. CRAZY Weekend ahead.
i will be leaving in 1 hour. bought the tickets this afternoon and i’m ready to go.
No midnight show here, but our departure for Africa has been postponed at least a few days, so I get to see it tomorrow.
I just saw it. I think what we have is a first rate action film with second rate acting and effects. It all looks good on paper, but perhaps they didn’t quite have the budget to completely pull it off. Paris chase was excellent, enjoyed the performances of Voslo, Gordon-Leavitt and the guy playing Storm Shadow best. Also fond of the new Breaker—may need to pick him up. (He’s cool in the video game, too.) Will probably need to see it again to enjoy it for what it is instead of what I was expecting.
just saw it..and i liked it for the most part. the bad first. some of the changes to the characters bothered me. destro wearing a mask should have been due to family pride and tradition not to disfigurement.
also ripcord and scarlettt just seemed odd. i actually thought at some point it would it be made clear to ripcord that scarlett was snake eyes’s girl so i was shocked to see scarlett kiss ripcord b4 he took off to save the day. the whole snake eyes and scarlett relatinship thing is just really embedded in most die hard fans. it’s like superman and lois lane and them not being a couple and having scarlett have a romance with another joe was a bad move.
i also felt the movie dragged at the end. the action wasn’t as exciting as what came before it.
the good..snake eyes was awesome! i wish he had more scenes! cobra commander was just outstanding! i loved the voice and how he moved in such a creepy way. when he turned and said “call me cobra commander” i had a geekgasam! that was such a great moment. i loved how he just slightly changed his voice when he said it too.
knowing that will see more cobra commander in the next flick is the main reason i’m looking forward to the sequel. now some of the changes i didn’t like but others i did. i actually liked the whole baroness, rex , duke thing. i think it adds more to the baroness character.
and speaking of the baroness sienna miller was great. so was storm shadow and zartan. destro was good but a little too slimey..i was hoping for a more comic book version of destro.
i also loved the action. the paris chase was the best action sequence in the movie. intense chaos that was fun and easy to follow!
overall i liked it alot, it dragged a bit in the end and some of the changes i did’nt like but sommers did get some characters right and for me the 2 most important which were snake eyes and cobra commander, and it was alot fun. forgive my misspellings i’m really tired and sleepy..
Seen it twice now Justin. You are slacking! 😛
Guess what, the world did not end. The deth of teh line proclamations were a wee bit premature. I can only speak for myself when I say what I saw looked good, sounded good and was fun. Turn your brains off and enjoy a cool ride.
I took my niece to the midnight showing, and we absolutely loved the movie. It was what it was, an action flick. I was fine with the portrayal of all the characters. The action was good and I liked how they used the flashbacks, they didn’t seem forced. I found it funny that Heavy Duty was pretty much in charge. I didn’t mind the Ripcord Scarlet relationship, and Ripcord was funny to me. The high tech weapons were cool, and I loved all the little touches they put into the movie. Right now I want to go out and but every ROC toy I see, but my Wal-Mart isn’t caring them right now. I’d go more in depth with everything, but I too wired, and I’m good crash soon.
Saw it at a preview screening at Eight last night. The whole audience applauded at the end, and that usually doesn’t happen at Sneak Preview events in my experience. There were a lot of cool things that the average person wouldn’t get (my friends didn’t get most of them)but a fan would (my favorite was Breaker blowing a bubble). They definitely made this movie with franchise in mind as it ends with some interesting developments, that are unresolved. It was a lot of all out action and I didn’t feel it drag at all at the end. Definitely watch the first part of the credits as there are alot of hidden easter eggs for fans in the letters and numbers that appear on the cgi logo. Reccomended but remember its just a movie and have fun. I sure did.
Well, i’m about to take off and watch it, i don’t have too much high expectations, but i was quite surprised to see it here, on mexico the same august 7 (normally it takes a week or two after it hits the u.s.)
There was no midnight viewing here in my sleepy little town and the 4 hour drive to the nearest place that had one seemed a little extreme considering I have to work this morning…lol. But I will see the opening show here tonight. 12 hours to go 😀
First ever midnight showing I’ve ever been to. I’ve been trying to avoid reading spoilers, but there really wasn’t any twists or turns that I didn’t see coming a mile away. Not as good as the first Transformers movie, but definately a good solid film. Wasn’t dissapointed, but wasn’t blown away either.
Oh, and Baroness was super hot. Sienna Miller should permanently dye her hair black.
Just saw it this morning and I thought it was awesome, much better than Transformers II.
