Cmderinchief (from JBL and the Coil Club, naturally) comes through again, this time with a bevy of great pictures of the upcoming Heavy Duty action figure in the familiar “Reactive Armor” battlesuit. See his original thread on JoeBattleLines here, or check out the nearly two dozen images shown below.

Every picture I see of this “Reactive Armor” stuff makes me really dig it even more…it’s such an awesome throwback to Sigma 6 (which of course will piss a lot of fans off…it just makes me smile) and I’m amazed at the level of detail. Good stuff. Now cmderinchief needs to get off his ass and take a nice group shot with what he’s got so far. :shifty:
by generalsjoes | May 26, 2009 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Video Game
Continuing their great coverage of the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA video game, IGN has posted another production blog with one of the folks working on the project. This time around it’s Matt Marsala, Senior Producer on the title. He posts a nice long article, with several very cool vehicle images scattered throughout, including the very familiar Snowcat as well as a new up-and-coming vehicle called the Cougar!
Several very interesting quotes are also in the article, including:
“It was at this point that Hasbro “opened the vault”, granting us access to reference not seen in a very long time. Once they understood what it was that we were trying to do, they were very accommodating in giving us access to the reference we needed, including some of the more obscure reference that we found almost by accident…”
The best quote, though, involves many of the potential characters we may see as playable characters or at least guest stars throughout the game:
“Given endless time and budget, we could have done much more, but given the time constraints of being on shelves when the movie is released, I’m quite happy with the final character roster. In addition to the five core G.I. JOE characters from the film (Duke, Scarlett, Heavy Duty, Ripcord, and Snake Eyes), we also included four COBRA bosses (Storm Shadow included) that unlock as playable characters after you’ve defeated them. The rest of the character set is rounded out by some other classic characters, including Kamakura, Shipwreck, and Gung-Ho, among others. There are also about a dozen more supporting non-playable characters that will help keep the story moving along, provide you with support in sticky situations, and give you info on the enemies you’ll encounter along the way. This includes characters like General Hawk, Tunnel Rat, Breaker, and Wild Bill, to name a few.”
To the best of my knowledge, this is our first mention of Tunnel Rat, Shipwreck, and Kamakura as being even remotely linked to the video game. The article also mentions vehicles, talking about the Armadillo/Armored Panther, the Snowcat, and HISS Tank! Take some time and read the full article here, and also check out the various images mirrored below!

IDW Editor Chris Ryall has posted a single page preview on his Ryalltime blog from G.I. Joe: Origins #5, featuring Rock n Roll and Roadblock Heavy Duty.
