JoeCon Z-Force Silver Mirage – Now with Images!

JoeCustoms forum member Kamakura has gotten his mitts on the Convention freebies already, and posted some nice images in this thread, which I’ve mirrored below.  Of most interest are the images of the absolutely kick-ass Z-Force Silver Mirage, and Interrogator without his helmet!
Folks hoping for some big mystery reveal might be a bit disappointed…the head looks fairly generic, though it does slightly resemble a 12″ figure.  Anyway, check out the images below.  This is just the tip of the iceberg as JoeCon weekend has officially begun!

It should be noted that the Lt. Stone figure there is a customized “Convention Exclusive” figure that Kamakura has produced.  Pretty sweet, eh?
Big thanks to Stealth Viper from JoeCanuck for the heads up!

JoeCon Coverage – What can you expect?

Well, I leave for Providence in…  about 16 hours.  The plan, as always, is to cover the convention as heavily as I possibly can.  I may not always get the first news, but I will try my damnedest to get the best quality pictures I can, and try to get as much pure information as I can.
As an FYI, I am officially covering the Convention as a representative of YoJoe, so that images will initially be posted in their Convention Galleries, but they will also be mirrored here, and I will endeavor to interface with the GeneralsJoes readers as much as I can.
Hopefully everyone else is looking forward to Convention weekend as much as I am!  See you all from Providence!

A JoeCon Surprise – Paradrop Flint figure available to attendees!

Coming somewhat out of left field just a week before the Convention, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club sends the following email with a picture!
“This year, Hasbro is sponsoring a private parachute drop for school kids to help promote the convention locally.
Since Hasbro knew that the venue was not accessible to attendees, they wanted to make sure you were a part of this great event by giving you one of the limited edition Flint figures that will be used at the drop.
These will be handed out to everyone with a convention badge who attends either of the two presentations given by Alan Hassenfeld on Friday morning in the Narragansett Ballroom at the Westin.
The first presentation will be at 8:30am and the second one will be at 11:30am. No seating will be allowed after 9:00am and 12:00pm.
The first Hasbro tour group’s presentation will be after their Hasbro tour while the second Hasbro tour group’s presentation will be before their tour.  Don’t be late! No seating will be allowed after 9:00am and 12:00pm.  Figures will be distributed at the conclusion of Mr. Hassenfeld’s presentation are are allocated one per attendee. Thanks to all of the fans who sent in questions for this once-in-a-lifetime event!
Here is “Paradrop” Flint!

See you in RI! – Brian”

JoeCon 2010 Saturday Dinner update

For those of you attending the convention we have had a slight change in the program for the Awards Dinner on Saturday night:
Due to Rhode Island state laws (previously unbeknownst to us), we cannot host a Casino Night charity event.  However, we have decided to go ahead with a charity auction, only this time, you will bid with real money not gaming points.  You will be able to check out with cash or with credit card at the end of the auction.
We will have many different lots for you to bid on, and the proceeds for the evening all go to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.  Our goal is to raise at least $4,000 from this event.  Together we can do it!
Dinner will be a sit down affair and we encourage you to dress in your favorite G.I. Joe costume or business casual (no t-shirts, please).  We will have the Disguise Costume Contest parade where the winners will receive CASH! The audience will vote for the winners.  Prizes are as follows:  First place $300, Second place $150, Third place $75 and there will be two children’s winners that will receive $50 each.  Thanks to Disguise for sponsoring this evening of fun!  You must wear your name badge to gain admittance.  All events for the evening will be in the Narragansett Ballroom at the Westin.
The Costume Contest will occur after the dinner but before the auction.

And I suck… JoeCon pre-registration ended today.

Well, I don’t suck because I didn’t pre-register…I’ve been registered for a looong time.  I suck because I neglected to remind everyone else that they should pre-register.
I know a lot of the popular collector mentality is simply to stop by a store and buy a toy.  But to me, being a part of the G.I. Joe community is so much more than simply shoving my dirty money into a cashier’s hand.  It’s all about the community.
Ever since I relaunched GeneralsJoes as a blog and news site, I’ve fought myself on the subject of a forum.  Part of me loves the community building that a forum generates, but another part of me knows that I simply do not have the time or energy to devote to a forum and do one the “right” way.  So if it can’t be done the right way, I refuse to do it the wrong way.  Besides, there are more than enough forums out there already.
But even though community is built from the forums, the community and friendships that you build at JoeCon lasts lifetimes.  There are guys that I’ve met face-to-face only a few times in my life, and those times were at JoeCon.  And I consider them some of my greatest  friends I have.  Typing back and forth is great, sure.  But hanging out at the bar, in person beats any amount of finger-clacking you can do.
You don’t like the o-rings…I get it.  The Red Shadows bore you…  I guess I can appreciate that sentiment (as warped as it may be).  But the conventions are about so much more than plastic, rubber, and paint applications, and I just hope that folks realize that.
Missing last year’s Con was a tough gig for me…even though I was busy at the time witnessing the birth of my second child.  I am ecstatic  that I’m going to make it again this year, and I really look forward to seeing all the familiar faces, as well as some new faces this time around.  Two weeks away.  I cannot WAIT.
Hopefully I’ll see you in Providence!
