First guest announced for the 2011 G.I. Joe Con

And it’s a good one!  For whatever reason, over the years, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club hasn’t sought to invite any of the Sunbow voice actors.  Or perhaps they have, they just haven’t landed any.  Well, this year they did, and it’s quite an appropriate one!
Hank Garrett will be landing in Orlando to attend the G.I. Joe Convention!  He’s starred in scores of films and television series, but we all know him as…  Dial Tone!  Quite the appropriate choice, considering the free membership figure and his inclusion in the Special Missions Brazil boxed set.
Keep your eyes peeled for more on GIJoeCon.com, and to get on-the-spot updates like this one, follow the G.I. Joe Con on Twitter.

Todd Pleasant provides some details on the upcoming AT Comic

As February draws closer, the release of the latest G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club newsletter gets closer, and we find out what this interesting “freebie” the Club has promised ends up being.  Another awesome landmark event, though, is the return of Rod Whigham to the G.I. Joe universe!  Yes, he’s been providing alternate covers to G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series by Larry Hama, but this Adventure Team book will mark his triumphant return to internal comics pages.
I am absolutely psyched.  Mr. Whigham was far and away my favorite artist during the long tenure of the original Marvel comic series, and seeing him pen the Joe universe again (even an Adventure Team one) is going to be awesome.
Todd Pleasant, who is writing the series also swung by the GeneralsJoes comments section and gave some intel on the upcoming book as well:

“Rod’s work on the comic is truly amazing. He brings life to the AT in way we have never seen. It has been great being involved with this project, and a pleasure to work with such a consummate professional.
The profiles are intended to flesh out and add dimension to the characters featured the serial. We have a number story lines in the works, and I am hoping to work in some prehistory for the Team. Including how each of the members were recruited. We get a sample of that in the first episode as we tag along with the Commander on headhunting mission.”

Todd also is part of the team that gives us the Regular Joes comic in the Collectors’ Club newsletter, and also was one of the folks behind the absolutely awesome AESOP dio-comic back in the day.  Personally, I can’t wait to see what we’re going to get.
If you’re like me and looking forward to these upcoming Adventure Team comics, hit up GIJoeClub.com to join!

Sign up for the G.I. Joe Collectors' Club by Friday 1/14/2011 for a "special" freebie

The January issue of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club newsletter recently hit mailboxes, and the Collectors’ Club is now encouraging fans to sign up for the Club in time for their February issue, promising a freebie that’s a “little different, AND a little special”.  This message was posted to their Facebook page:

“If you are not a member of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club now, sign up TOMORROW (Friday) so you will be sure to get the February issue. It’s a little different AND a little special! And there’s an extra freebie included. It’s a great issue to start off with! Don’t say I didn’t tell all our Facebook friends! :-)”

I have no idea what this freebie ism but if you’re thinking about joining the Collectors’ Club, it sounds like now is the time.  I know you want the Dial Tone, so click here to join up!

GIJCC JoeCon 2011 Captain Claymore revealed!

For many of us today was a vacation day, but the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has continued posting their images for the upcoming 2011 G.I. Joe Collectors Convention exclusive figures!  The last one in line was Captain Claymore (of course, the one I’ve been looking forward to the most).
He is now up and posted and features all sorts of great features:

  • 25th Anniverary Style Action Figure
  • Based on Classic TRU Exclusive Character
  • NEW Headsculpt and NEW Camo Helmet
  • Includes Stand, Machine Gun w/ bi-pod, Uzi, Removable Flashlight and Backpack

So a new head sculpt and a new camouflage helmet?  Could this mean a Footloose is in the works?  I certainly wouldn’t be surprised.  The Club went with a black shirt it looks like, with the green tactical vest over it and the familiar yellow camouflage pants.  I like, though I would have loved to have green camouflage to match Wet Suit and/or Leatherneck.  Still, a great looking figure.  For the most part, it looks like Outback from the neck down, with the new head.  Pretty cool.  Check out the images below.
