Confirmation that SDCC “Danger at the Docks” will be available at TRU after SDCC

I feel like I’ve had this conversation a number of times, but I know the lack of a real “official” report left the seed of doubt firmly planted in many fans’ minds. But rest assured, today Toys “R” Us has confirmed, via this section of their website that the G.I. Joe “Danger at the Docks” SDCC Exclusive will be available via TRU.com after its debut at the show.

So for folks who aren’t able to hit up ComicCon, this great looking set will be hitting the TRU website (and if past years are any indication, brick and mortar stores as well).

It’s okay to celebrate now! I’ve mirrored some great press images of the SDCC Exclusive Danger at the Docks set below.

G.I. Joe 50th Anniversary Pre-Orders listed on TRU.com

With a sale date list of August 13th, items from the G.I. Joe 50th Anniversary line have started showing up on ToysRUs.com.  Whether people jumped on them early or if they just haven’t listed everything yet, I’m not sure, but as of this moment, the HEAT Viper/Blowtorch 2 Pack, Low Light/Night Viper 2 Pack, the Cobra Trooper 3 Pack, and the Cobra Wolf are listed for pre-order.

Regular Joes Podcast Episode #39 – G.I. Joe hits 50 and 50 hits back

As excited as many Real American Hero fans were about some of the announcements at Toy Fair a short while ago, there is a segment of the community that felt a little bit left out.  So when three representatives from that community invited me onto their podcast to chat about Toy Fair reveals, I jumped at the chance, eager to see their perspective.  It certainly helps that Barry, Tod, and Dave are all great guys who are really closely invested in the G.I. Joe fandom and do regular work for the G.I. Joe Collectors Club!

Well, I couldn’t have had a better time.  All three of them are veritable geek experts (as listeners of their podcast can certainly attest to) and we talked about everything from G.I. Joe’s 50th Anniversary to Guardians of the Galaxy, Harold Ramis, and many other things in between.  It was a blast.

And folks looking for information about my dio-story may want to listen to… I break a bit of news on that front as well.  🙂

Heck, we even talk a little bit about the Adventure Team Chronicles and “Shattered Glass” concept, considering podcast host Tod Pleasant is the writer of that particular adventure.

You can find the latest episode over on iTunes, and the show notes are below.

SHOW NOTES

Joe gear up to recognize their plastic hero’s golden anniversary, controversy, Joe’s frequent companion, one again makes an appearance. Is Hasbro giving Joe his due? Barry, Dave and Tod, the Regular Joes are joined by Justin Bell from the What’s on Joe Mind podcast to talk it out. Also, a salute to the late great Harold Ramis, with movie picks, and another round of Who Would Win in a Fight. Yo Joe!

Clarification on the SDCC Exclusive 50th Anniversary “Danger at the Docks”

When the images came out over Toy Fair weekend and revealed that the brown VAMP MK II w/ Flint and the Night Landing w/ Cobra Eel were marked “ComicCon” it caused a bit of a fan fury, as one might imagine.  After all, a vintage accurate Flint figure was voted the #1 fan demanded figure in the Concept Case survey back in 2012, and many fans were over the top excited that he was finally finding a way to retail shelves.

This excitement was quickly muffled by the thought that he might only be arriving on “virtual” shelves via ComicCon and the general chaos of HasbroToyShop the week afterwards.

Seeking some clarification, I reached out to the Hasbro Public Relations folks, and the current plans are a bit more fan friendly.  Take this with a grain of salt, as full details are still to come in the upcoming months, but the current plan is for the “Danger at the Docks” with vintage accurate VAMP MK II and Flint to debut at San Diego ComicCon, but then be available through Toys “R” Us afterwards.

This same formula was used last year for the Transformers Masterpiece Soundwave and Acid Storm, and early indications are that Hasbro will do this for the 50th Anniversary “Danger at the Docks” vehicle set.

Keep in mind, of course, the winds shift frequently in the toy world, so things might change, but as of this moment, fans can rest easy, it shouldn’t be as difficult to get this highly sought after vehicle and figure as some folks thought it might be.

Thanks to the always receptive folks with Hunter PR for responding so quickly amidst a very busy Toy Fair weekend.

Toy Fair 2014 G.I. Joe “Best in Show”

So now that the flood of news has slowed to a simmer since yesterday afternoon, I figured it was time to sit back and see exactly what was revealed yesterday and break down what really stood out to me and what rose to the top.

This will be somewhat of a mixed bag, because as many folks have already witnessed, there is a lot of “carry forward” product here, which obviously is pretty cool in some respects, but not something that’s going to crack my Top 10 list.

After the jump I’ll break down my opinions.
