by generalsjoes | Nov 22, 2015 | G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe 3
Paramount made waves last year when it announced a “writer’s room” with some heavy hitting film writers and developers who were all working together to build a cohesive universe for the continuation of the Transformers series of films with Michael Bay apparently stepping away from the franchise.
Well, according to Nerdist, a similar writer’s room is now forming on other Hasbro properties, including G.I. Joe and Micronauts.
This is an interesting conundrum for fans of G.I. Joe, because while a concerted team of folks working on future film development is certainly proof that Hasbro (and Paramount) are committed to investing in the future of the brand, it most assuredly means the next G.I. Joe film is likely still a few years away.
Perhaps that’s a good thing? While many fans felt that G.I. Joe: Retaliation was a step in the right direction, it wasn’t especially well-received by the movie going public, and the delay in release certainly didn’t set a good precedent either. With the recent financial hiccup with Jem and the Holograms, it seems that Hasbro is investing in this writer’s room to hopefully not make the same mistake with this next generation of G.I. Joe films.
Now, just because this writer’s room is happening doesn’t necessarily mean the first two Joe films are being wiped from Hollywood memory. After all, the writer’s room worked to develop Transformers 5, which is essentially a continuation of the film franchise.
How this all turns out is anyone’s guess, but the mere fact that this writer’s room is focusing on G.I. Joe is potentially good news for fans of the franchise. It’s proof that G.I. Joe’s future in Hollywood isn’t yet decided, and in fact steps are being taken to try and put together a powerful film franchise.
The leader of the writer’s room working on these other properties is Akiva Goldsman (the same man who led the Transformers team), though who the actual other members are, at this point, unknown. If some of the members remain the same, we could get some pretty powerful Hollywood talent focused on G.I. Joe, including Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead), Zak Penn (The Avengers w/ Joss Whedon), Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man), and Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (Ant Man). Now it’s clear that these folks won’t likely all join Goldsman on the G.I. Joe film brand, but it’s still a fun thing to consider.

Those wonderful blokes from across the pond have put together a new episode of The Full Force podcast, this one putting a strong focus on the intriguing links between Star Wars and G.I. Joe throughout Palitoy history.
Former Hasbro designers (and current Boss Fighters) Erich Ridlon and Erik Arana join the crew to discuss work they did for the Star Wars toyline, and we get all sorts of other great toy related talk.

Today is the big day…that’s right, only a week for the Hasbro Pulse Kindle Worlds Fan Vote, and the last day of voting is TODAY.
Please, if you haven’t yet, take just a few moments out of your busy day and familiarize yourself with the four Kindle Worlds characters on the Hasbro Pulse website.
Then please consider placing a vote for my character Whisper. I spent a lot of time developing her backstory and hope to be able to use her as a catalyst for a new Dio-Story and new Kindle Worlds adventures! As with the other authors, it would be a dream come true for my character to be immortalized in Hasbro plastic and sold in an official G.I. Joe package.
You can vote here.
Thanks very much for all of your support over the past week, this has been a wonderful experience!
Best of luck to the other creators.

by generalsjoes | Nov 8, 2015 | Dio-Stories, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Toys, Kindle Worlds, Pursuit of COBRA
As the deadline for the Hasbro Pulse fan vote nears (tomorrow, November 9th) the question remains…which of these four characters will get the green light, and where do they fit in the G.I. Joe mythology. The other three writers have done a great job jiving their creators with an overall timeline, but as I look towards the future, in the event that Whisper actually wins, I want to plan not just where she’s been, but where she will be going.
For anyone who follows my dio-stories, you know that “universe” more or less wrapped up this past year with Darkness Falls. If Whisper wins the Fan Vote, I have already developed a follow up that Darkness Falls Dio-Story that I will be excited to launch!
The following contains spoilers to Darkness Falls, so if you haven’t read that yet, you may want to before continuing…
“Rescued” by COBRA from a South American fishing village after the entire village was massacred (see Marvel’s G.I. Joe #1), Whisper was brought in and raised by COBRA Commander as his own personal assassin. Trained by the elite of COBRA operatives, Whisper learned martial arts, silenced weapons, sabotage, covert operations, and disguise by some of the most talented masters in the world. Then employed those skills in sinister fashion for COBRA (as seen in The Price of Peace trilogy).
Time has passed…
The decades long battle between G.I. Joe and Cobra has more or less ended. Casualties on both sides. COBRA Commander as we know him is dead, as are Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Scarlett has retreated to the cabin in the Sierra Nevadas to raise her son Tommy and the world feels a little bit safer.
But the battle is not over. Whisper has returned, and has returned to find her father dead and her support system decimated. With only her blinding hate of G.I. Joe to guide and feed her, Whisper prepares for a massive campaign of revenge on former G.I. Joe leadership. Meanwhile, the remnants of the COBRA organization have come together to form The Coil, a sinister underground devoted to furthering the COBRA cause. But they may hit some resistance as a new and improved COBRA Commander comes on the scene…
I plan to use Whisper to kick start a new generation of G.I. Joe, focusing pretty strongly on the Pursuit of COBRA aesthetic. While my old dio-story used a lot of those figures, this new universe will take that concept and run with it.
So, please consider voting for Whisper, and we can all experience this fun new world together! You could also expect to see her show back up in my Kindle Worlds work as well.
Meanwhile, definitely check out all of the other creators behind their own Hasbro Fan Vote creations as well. Lots of good stuff there.

Seems strangely appropriate that the next G.I. Joe Convention would be in “Loveland” Colorado…and the guys (and girl!) from What’s On Joe Mind have finally recorded some new content to talk about JoeCon’s 2016 location!
A warm welcome to new contributor Joe Colton as well as Colorado native (and kickass artist) Troy McKie who comes on to talk about his home state and what to do in or around Loveland.
Check out the latest special edition at our Podbean site, or embedded below.
Whoa! What happened to Special Edition #46?! Well, we’re still working on it. In the meantime, we moved on to #47 to react to the GIJCC’s JoeCon site announcement. This year we are finally headed back west as a tiny burg named Loveland will enter our lexicon next to such cities as San Francisco, Dallas, New Orleans…and yes, Indianapolis. What is there to see and do in the area? As always our intrepid crew tracks down a local to fill us in with the info that only locals know. So sit back, relax and listen to the gang re-assembling to talk about JoeCon 2015 – in Loveland, Colorado…and as always, sharing dirty stories about one Noted Author. You don’t want to miss it!!

by generalsjoes | Nov 3, 2015 | G.I. Joe, Kindle Worlds
As I run around stumping for Whisper in the Kindle Worlds fan vote, I see my bud Fred from JoeBattleLines point something out…and I feel pretty stupid for not being on top of it yesterday when the vote was announced.
Yes, I want everyone to vote for my character. Of course I do. Who wouldn’t want a G.I. Joe figure based off of someone they created? But more importantly, the great thing about this fan vote is that no matter who wins, there will be a NEW character in the G.I. Joe mythology, which is something that doesn’t happen often. So who are these characters?
You can obviously go to the Hasbro Pulse site and read all of their bio’s, but those only scratch the surface. If you really want to know who they are, you need to read the books, plain and simple.
Jim Beard
Character: Adventure Team Marcus
Book: Mystery of the Sunken Tomb

Bill Nedrow
Character: Stilleto
Book: G.I. Joe: Body Count

Troy Osgood
Character: Blackjack
Book: G.I. Joe: Brainstorm

Justin Bell
Character: Whisper
Books: The Price of Peace: Snakebite

Keep in mind that each author put a piece of themselves into these new characters, and you should all do yourselves a favor and figure out who these characters are.
Then you can vote Whisper. 😀
