Folks who have been visiting the site have seen a healthy number of G.I. Joe related video clips, and believe me, that will continue when G.I. Joe: Renegades emerges in late November. I will certainly be posting the video links on the site, but if you want to keep up to date with the latest G.I. Joe animation video, check out the GeneralsJoes YouTube Channel.
I’ve already got a playlist set up there for the entirety of G.I. Joe: Resolute, and will be setting up various playlists once Renegades kicks off as well. I’ve already got a couple of Renegades clips mirrored there:
So news has been pretty light, and site updates have been sparse. But I’ve taken the time to write something up that’s been rattling around in my head for a while now, and try to generate some discussion. There’s been lots of debate and argument across the net recently regarding newer Joe concepts…how about going back in time a little ways and trying to debate some classic era discussions?
Since 1982 there have been many permutations of the G.I. Joe universe. Obviously the two most impactful ones were the Marvel comic book and the Sunbow animated series. But in looking back on nearly thirty years of history, which were the most impactful storyline “events”? That’s not so easy to discern.
First of all, what does “impactful” mean? An impact on the fandom? The G.I. Joe mythology? The general public? I dunno. I kind of went with my gut on some of these and chose the events that resonated with me personally. I will tell you that #10 on the list was a tough call. I had a hard time judging that one above some others, but in the end, I felt like the writer of this particular series deserved a spot on the list, and the events (plus the artwork) was important and cool enough to earn its place.
Anyway, check out the list after the break. Agree or disagree in the comments section. Debate is welcome! (more…)
So yes, I realize I’ve paid a lot of attention to G.I. Joe: Renegades, and even if that series is not airing within the next month or so, there is still something for Joe fans to celebrate. Beginning tonight at 12:30 midnight (Eastern Time), G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, the Sunbow series that put the name on the map, will begin airing on The Hub. It will be proceeded at 12:00 by the original Transformers. While the time of the airing precludes a new generation of Joe fans from watching (without the services of a DVR, anyway) I think it’s awesome that this series will once again be appearing on television.
To celebrate this great occasion, I wanted to reprint an article I wrote a long time ago…since The Mass Device 5-Parter begins tonight, let me (re) present the Top Five Memorable Moments from the MASS Device mini-series. Check ’em out after the jump, and tune into The Hub tonight to relive your youth! Be sure to check out the Hub’s Television Schedule to see when other great nostalgia-rich shows are airing. (more…)
So most of the focus on HubWorld.com has been G.I. Joe: Renegades and Transformers: Prime… however what some folks don’t know is that HubWorld also ported over a lot of the videos from Hasbro’s MonkeyBarTV site, which means full online versions of many of the Sunbow cartoons as well as some of the CGI features from 2003 – 2005 (including the fun Valor Vs. Venom). This is a very cool added feature and something that Joefans of all genres can appreciate.

A big thanks goes out to Apocalypse Comics for continuing to bring us news regarding New York ComicCon. As mentioned in an earlier post, Apocalypse Comics will be bringing variant covers to Transformers #12 as well as G.I. Joe #23 to the NYCC, and along with those variant covers, some pretty cool guests as well, including G.I. Joe super voice actor Michael Bell!
For full details of the guests click the “Read the rest of this entry” link below. (more…)
A scant twenty-three years after it’s initial broadcast, the infamous G.I. Joe: The Movie hits retail shelves today on Blu-Ray or DVD. Produced by Shout! Factory, the movie finally rounds off the long awaited process many fans have gone through waiting for the entire collection of Sunbow features to be released to mass retail on DVD.
The ’87 animated movie will forever be a point of contention and talking point among the G.I. Joe fandom, so don’t miss your chance to own this DVD today.
GeneralsJoes will be reviewing this in its entirety very shortly, but trust me when I say it’s worth a look. It holds up surprisingly well over two decades after it initially aired. Granted, I thought it was pretty damn cheesy back then, and these days I’ve learned to better appreciate the finer arts of Sunbow ham, but I still don’t think you’ll be disappointed. If for nothing else, Buzz Dixon’s excellent commentary.
