I promise this will be at least somewhat G.I. Joe related, but I won’t lie, I am an Amazon Affiliate and I may partake, from time to time, of promoting that fact here.
I will endeavor to make sure that I’m promoting content that is useful to readers, though.
We’ve got a big week at Amazon this week with lots of potential geek friendly wares.

And yeah, I won’t pretend to not be feeling a personal connection here.
I’m not sure how many folks are aware of it (I certainly wasn’t) but the Amazon Kindle service has a “Kindle Worlds” library and service, which has generated licensing deals with many brands out there, allowing authors to write fiction based in those universes, and collect royalties for that fiction work.
As of today, Kindle Worlds as reached a licensing agreement with Hasbro for the world of G.I. Joe! G.I. Joe is rich with fanfiction creators, and the idea that these people can potentially format and submit their work for official placement in the Kindle library is pretty huge, and I won’t lie, I’m really excited about this.
Some folks might remember, I first made my way into the online G.I. Joe fandom with my work on The Price of Peace, a 350 – 400 page monster novel that consumed a year of my life and helped spring board my dio-story universe. The idea that work like this could actually generate some income and be available worldwide on the Kindle platform? Yeah, that’s pretty bad ass right there.
The full details can be seen right here, and I’ll also copy the press release after the jump.

…and yes, it’s Version 2!
Over on GIJoeCon.com the G.I. Joe Collectors Club has revealed the long-awaited Toxo-Viper from the 2014 G.I. Joe Convention set, and it… is…(to borrow a friend’s phrase) GLORIOUS.
Featuring a brand new removable helmet and some fantastic Pursuit of Cobra/30th Anniversary parts, this figure is simply spectacular. Great colors, awesome helmet design… Toxo perfection. He’ll look awesome next to the FSS Cesspool, but now we need some Sludge Vipers!
Check out GIJoeCon.com for the details and the image is mirrored below.

So as we’ve come to expect the G.I. Joe Collectors Club Tweeted a clue to today’s reveal, and it is as follows:
So considering the Toxo-Viper’s nickname as the “Leaky Suit Brigade” and the fact that the filecard reads:
“Needless to say, being a Toxo-Viper is not something a Cobra Trooper aspires to be. In fact, the assignment is meted out as punishment for major offenses.”
…says to me that today we might just get our first look at the Cobra Toxo-Viper. Will it be based on Version 1 or Version 2? It almost seems, with such a focus on the Eco Warriors, that Version 2 makes more sense. But I suspect that Version 1 is probably more in demand.
I think from purely a playability perspective I’d prefer Version 2. I’d be too worried that Version 1 would be a Hazard Viper repaint, and while that’s a neat enough figure, it’s not poseable at all and doesn’t have a whole lot of “fun factor”. Seeing as how I’m currently frantically rewriting my dio-story to include some elements of this Convention Set, I’d prefer having Cobra Troopers that are well articulated, playable, and fun. But we’ll see what happens!

If Paul Allor’s work on G.I. Joe Issue #12 is any indication, we’re going to be the lucky ones once Issue #13 hits comic stores tomorrow. Diving back into the past of the Cobra organization, Allor managed to weave a very interesting historical tale, and nicely develop various different Cobra Commanders from centuries past, even though he only had a few pages to devote to each one.
This next issue continues that look back into the depths of Cobra’s history, and I’m excited to check it out. Until then, take a peek at the preview below.
G.I. Joe #13
Paul Allor (w) • Robert Atkins, Alex Cal, Chris Evenhuis (p) • Steve Kurth (c)
THE SECRET HISTORY OF COBRA COMMANDER! BARONESS leads COBRA’s newest recruit, the enigmatic SIREN, on a journey through history to the earliest days of COBRA… but what is SIREN’s secret?
FC • 32 pages • $3.99
Bullet points:
- The secret history of the COBRA COMMANDER through the ages!
- Variant Cover by Freddie Williams III!
by generalsjoes | Feb 3, 2014 | Dio-Stories, G.I. Joe
I did a major overhaul of my dio-story section last week, but in some cases (most notably the G.I. Joe and The Transformers story as well as the Miscellaneous stories) the navigation was still weird, with the “Previous” and “Next” links being above the images.
I have made some further CSS adjustments so the navigation for those other sections now match the GeneralsJoes section with the big “PREV” and “NEXT” arrows at the bottom of the page.
Sorry for any inconvenience, hopefully this will further enhance the enjoyment of these stories! 🙂
