Coming somewhat out of left field just a week before the Convention, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club sends the following email with a picture!
“This year, Hasbro is sponsoring a private parachute drop for school kids to help promote the convention locally.
Since Hasbro knew that the venue was not accessible to attendees, they wanted to make sure you were a part of this great event by giving you one of the limited edition Flint figures that will be used at the drop.
These will be handed out to everyone with a convention badge who attends either of the two presentations given by Alan Hassenfeld on Friday morning in the Narragansett Ballroom at the Westin.
The first presentation will be at 8:30am and the second one will be at 11:30am. No seating will be allowed after 9:00am and 12:00pm.
The first Hasbro tour group’s presentation will be after their Hasbro tour while the second Hasbro tour group’s presentation will be before their tour. Don’t be late! No seating will be allowed after 9:00am and 12:00pm. Figures will be distributed at the conclusion of Mr. Hassenfeld’s presentation are are allocated one per attendee. Thanks to all of the fans who sent in questions for this once-in-a-lifetime event!
Here is “Paradrop” Flint!

See you in RI! – Brian”

For those of you attending the convention we have had a slight change in the program for the Awards Dinner on Saturday night:
Due to Rhode Island state laws (previously unbeknownst to us), we cannot host a Casino Night charity event. However, we have decided to go ahead with a charity auction, only this time, you will bid with real money not gaming points. You will be able to check out with cash or with credit card at the end of the auction.
We will have many different lots for you to bid on, and the proceeds for the evening all go to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Our goal is to raise at least $4,000 from this event. Together we can do it!
Dinner will be a sit down affair and we encourage you to dress in your favorite G.I. Joe costume or business casual (no t-shirts, please). We will have the Disguise Costume Contest parade where the winners will receive CASH! The audience will vote for the winners. Prizes are as follows: First place $300, Second place $150, Third place $75 and there will be two children’s winners that will receive $50 each. Thanks to Disguise for sponsoring this evening of fun! You must wear your name badge to gain admittance. All events for the evening will be in the Narragansett Ballroom at the Westin.
The Costume Contest will occur after the dinner but before the auction.

It’s between tears that I write this post, as many of my Joe collecting brethren received the golden ticket today…however I was not one of them.
All across the country, ecstatic Joefans eagerly opened packages arriving in their mailboxes and simultaneously said… WTF? Big Lob? Really?!
In actuality, I find myself really looking forward to this figure. Not only is he a classic o-ring Joe…not only is he a character that has been kicking around unreleased since 1987…but he’s so damn goofy that he’s awesome. It took me a very long time to start appreciating the wonky side of G.I. Joe, but now that I do appreciate it, I welcome Big Lob with open arms.
Come here, big daddy… but dammit, Kwinn and Billy better be close behind you.

Well, I don’t suck because I didn’t pre-register…I’ve been registered for a looong time. I suck because I neglected to remind everyone else that they should pre-register.
I know a lot of the popular collector mentality is simply to stop by a store and buy a toy. But to me, being a part of the G.I. Joe community is so much more than simply shoving my dirty money into a cashier’s hand. It’s all about the community.
Ever since I relaunched GeneralsJoes as a blog and news site, I’ve fought myself on the subject of a forum. Part of me loves the community building that a forum generates, but another part of me knows that I simply do not have the time or energy to devote to a forum and do one the “right” way. So if it can’t be done the right way, I refuse to do it the wrong way. Besides, there are more than enough forums out there already.
But even though community is built from the forums, the community and friendships that you build at JoeCon lasts lifetimes. There are guys that I’ve met face-to-face only a few times in my life, and those times were at JoeCon. And I consider them some of my greatest friends I have. Typing back and forth is great, sure. But hanging out at the bar, in person beats any amount of finger-clacking you can do.
You don’t like the o-rings…I get it. The Red Shadows bore you… I guess I can appreciate that sentiment (as warped as it may be). But the conventions are about so much more than plastic, rubber, and paint applications, and I just hope that folks realize that.
Missing last year’s Con was a tough gig for me…even though I was busy at the time witnessing the birth of my second child. I am ecstatic that I’m going to make it again this year, and I really look forward to seeing all the familiar faces, as well as some new faces this time around. Two weeks away. I cannot WAIT.
Hopefully I’ll see you in Providence!

I’ve had several requests for the answers to the various clues I posted throughout the week, leading to the inevitable rescue of The Pit command center. Here are the answers:
- Glow-in-the-dark Heavy Water from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club. – Most folks got this one right. The image was posted in the review, which was found either in the Exclusives section or the GIJCC Review Section.
- Venomous Maximus – I think most folks got this one right as well. This could also be found in my reviews section, in the Valor Vs. Venom archive.
- Weasel – This one seemed to give a lot of folks some trouble. Throughout the Marvel book, Kwinn was constantly telling Dr. Venom he had the “Spirit of the Weasel”. I gave the clue as “Search GeneralsJoes.com for the answer”. I simply made sure that if you went to the “Search Box” in the upper right hand section of the page and entered “Weasel” you would get the right entry, with the image there.
- Sigma 6 Adventure Team Dusty – Come on, you guys knew I’d have to sneak a Sigma 6 figure in here somewhere, right? It only made sense to me to make it an Adventure Team figure, since they featured prominently in the story. 🙂 Dusty was featured in the “Sigma 6 Celebration” that I did a ways back, and there is still a link up in the top menu bar leading to his review, where the image was placed.
- “Fallen from a Dead Man’s Hand” – I kind of knew this would be a real tough one, so I made sure to post my “Top 10” article before hand, since it featured the image with Dr. Venom’s death. For this clue, I also indicated that you should “search GeneralsJoes” for the answer, so I found an appropriate page (for the Adventure Team pre-order, naturally) and placed the fallen from a dead man’s hand phrase on that article, so it would be easily found in the search box.
And that’s really all there is to it.
This was an exceptionally fun contest, I hope everyone really enjoyed it! Here’s hoping I can do another one sometime, though I’ll be honest, this one took me a looong time to come up with. Sometimes I have a hard time thinking outside the box.
Thanks to everyone for playing! And while we’re on the subject of Dr. Venom, get your butts over to GIJoeClub.com and pre-order this bad boy! He looks great.
