Preview of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero from Comic Book Resources

Okay, now that my brain has stopped exploding from the combination of awesome witnessed in this preview, I can write a little post about it.

CBR sat down and chatted with Larry Hama about his run on G.I. Joe comics, and looked towards March and the release of G.I. Joe #200.  We get a little insight into what to expect with this landmark issue, but best of all, a few preview pages are shown including the best image I’ve ever seen:

SL Gallant + G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero + Sigma 6 themed Cobra Commander.

My soul is smiling.

Check out the whole article right here, and brace yourself for some great images of a Cobra army of HISS Tanks preparing to face off against the G.I. Joe team with some truly great old school vibe to it.  I’ve mirrored one image below, but the rest are over at CBR.

Vimeo posts treasure trove of Larry Hama interviews and G.I. Joe Reference

Big props to skinny for tracking this down on Vimeo, but apparently a couple of days ago, Vimeo posted a wealth of content specifically related to Larry Hama, and as one might expect, there is plenty of discussion about G.I. Joe throughout.

The series seems to start with a “Meet Janice Chiang” introduction, who mentions that she’s known Larry for over three decades, and then if you look at the related videos, there are nearly FIFTY different interviews and snippets with the godfather of A Real American Hero.  Not all of the conversations are G.I. Joe related specifically, but he’s always an interesting guy, and there is plenty of great stuff here to watch and listen to.

Thanks again to skinny for pointing this out.  Check out the first video right here, and also check out a three part “How G .I. Joe Changed Comics” playlist here.

Great photo set for cover of upcoming G.I. Joe: ARAH #200

Over on his Tumblr page, Chris Ryall, editor in chief for IDW Publishing has posted a fantastic photo set showing the progression of the cover artwork for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #200.  It shows the initial sketch by Larry Hama, with pencils & inks by SL Gallant, and then the final cover image.

I love the dichotomy between the classic Duke and Cobra Commander and the Pursuit of Cobra HISS…very interesting to read, too, that Gallant is now officially the longest tenure artist on the title.  That is shocking, but very cool as well.  It certainly helps that I’m a huge fan of his work.

Check out the photo set below.

Check your Wal-Mart Party section for some cool retro G.I. Joe cups

This has come as a surprise to me, but notpicard has reported in the G.I. Joe Discussion Group on Facebook that he stumbled across a G.I. Joe themed party cup in his local Wal-Mart party section.  Using some classic themed art work (though the art itself is from the more recent 25th Anniversary) it’s a large plastic cup that proudly broadcasts your love for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.

The G.I. Joe Collectors Club presents… 2014 Convention Exclusive OZONE!

Another notch in the E.C.O. Force belt was revealed today by the G.I. Joe Collectors Club!  Along with the previously revealed Flint, today we get my personal childhood favorite ECO Warriors character, Ozone.

Unfortunately they elected to only show a helmeted image for now, as I’m really dying to see what his head sculpt looks like, but the parts choice is relatively solid.  Color matching is pretty much dead on.

He looks to be using RoC Flash/Resolute Zartan arms, which is great, and PoC Snake Eyes legs, which is… not so great.  Sure the lower legs show off a bit of an armored look, and perhaps I just don’t like them because they were attached to one of my least favorite figures in the PoC era.  Tucked underneath there appears to be the torso from Retaliation “Ninja Duel” Snake Eyes as well. Whatever the case, the entire figure ends up looking really nice and really captures the original’s spirit well.  That Retaliation Cobra Trooper webgear sets it off nicely, too.

Check out the figure at GIJoeCon.com and see the image mirrored below.

Episode 89 of What’s on Joe Mind drops some Hot Toys goodness!

Among many other things…

Quite awhile ago, we had the unique opportunity to interview a couple of the guys from the Hot Toys Podcast, and while it took us a little while to get this posted (apologies Jim and Eamon) with G.I. Joe: Retaliation Roadblock on the precipice of release, it seems apt to get this out there now.

Along with talking with those fine folks, we cover all of the G.I. Joe news and information, and even touch on the big “NO JOES in 2014” topic that seems to be rearing it’s ugly head over the past week.

As always, hit up Podbean or check out the embedded player below, and show notes are after the jump.
