G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club announces voice of Flint – Bill Ratner for JoeCon 2013!

So not only do we get Lady Jaye in attendance, but looks like Flint will be joining her in Indianapolis for the 2013 G.I. Joe Convention!  Bill Ratner voiced Flint back in the Sunbow animated series, and has gone on to do a wealth of other voice work and production work in entertainment over the past several years.

It will be quite exciting having both of these G.I. Joe legends join us in Indy this April.

If you want to hear more from Mr. Ratner, be sure to check out What’s on Joe Mind Episode 70 where we spent about an hour talking to him.  You can hit up the embedded player below as well.  Make sure you continue to check GIJoeCon.com for the latest and greatest JoeCon intel!

So, yeah… about that G.I. Joe Convention Hit & Run.

I know I’ve been hearing a lot from friends of mine who were really interested in my thoughts on tonight’s reveal of the 2013 G.I. Joe Convention Hit & Run, and I’ve fully admitted that it just took me a little by surprise.  I was really hoping to see the familiar camouflaged version of the light infantry trooper, especially because the green and  black colors would still work fairly well among the Night Force paint schemes we’ve seen in the set so far.

So when the somewhat plain Hit & Run was revealed, I was a bit taken aback.

But, I’ve thought about this a little bit… and yeah, I know I’m consistently accused of looking at the glass half full, when I’m disappointed about something.  What can I say, it’s in my nature.  I see some real positives with this Hit & Run.

First and foremost, the foundation is now there.  The Club has access to the bulk of the tooling to make the fantastic Concept Case Hit & Run.  What’s to stop them from putting the regular version in the FSS down the line?  The figure scored really high on my Concept Case survey, so one would think that might encourage repeated trips “to the well” so to speak for the Collectors Club.  Heck, maybe Hasbro themselves has something planned?

But secondly, was this.  I had reported this very cool alternate paint scheme for Hit & Run on a post a while ago, but it had somewhat slipped my mind until I was reminded by Mizak23 in the comments section.  Leave it to ole Tim Finn from ARealAmericanBook.com for shining some (possible) light on this.

Is it a true homage?  Is it a coincidence?  Knowing the Club like I do, I’m thinking it’s a combination.  They wanted Hit & Run in here, they had this cool homage, they wanted to use these parts, so they made an amalgamation that pulls elements from various places and gives us what is a pretty cool end result.  Check out the comparison image below:

Is it a perfect homage?  No.  But it’s close enough, plus it has the Night Force elements.  I think it’s a bit too close to be a coincidence.

So, the foundation is there, and I feel like there is a good chance we’ll see another one at some point.  I’ll be waiting on pins and needles again when the next one comes around.  Stay up on the latest and greatest GIJoe Convention news at GIJoeCon.com.

G.I. Joe Collectors Club unveils last three Night Force figures

We’ve been waiting all week and tonight the G.I. Joe Collectors Club finally revealed the final three members of the 2013 Nocturnal Fire “Night Force” team.  We knew Spearhead, Repeater, and Hit & Run were on the team, but much speculation has gone around over how they would look.  Now we know.

Both Repeater and Spearhead pull significant influences from the old school Night Force, with some pretty neat parts choices.  Repeater is far away the star here with G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 Roadblock from the neck down and Resolute Roadblock vest…the new head with the sculpted “RANGER” hat only makes it perfect.

Spearhead seems like a mishmash of parts with the Shock-Viper body, Comic Pack Firefly vest and a removable helmet and goggles.

The last figure…  well… we all know I’ve been waiting for this one.  Hit & Run.  I’m not sure I’m equipped to judge this one fairly.  I kind of had myself convinced that we were going to see the concept case version translated piece for piece.  And we… didn’t get that.

Well, we sort of got that.  This figure has the new head, helmet, and goggles from the concept case, and uses the combination Lifeline/Agent Mouse arms, which is spectacular.  The torso and legs are from Lifeline, which is good, too, but the end result leaves me a bit mixed.  I’ve said a number of times that I don’t want faithful updates of originals.  Well, in this case, there was something very special about the camouflage paint scheme of that concept case Hit & Run.

This one looks quite different.  The plain black shirt, with some nice trim, along with the green pants are all a nice combination, but I’m not blown away like I was with the full blown camouflage Hit & Run.  This just seems like it could be more.

The foundation is there, though.  The head, helmet, and arms are all perfect.  I just think some different paint or deco would help.  I dig the accessories, I dig the foundation of the figure itself, but it hasn’t blown me away like I was hoping a Collectors’ Club version of my favorite character would do.  I’m giving it some time…  all told the set looks like it came together quite well and the colors all balance nicely off of each other.  It’s a very nice, cohesive set with some inspired vintage aesthetic, but also some very cool modern twists.  Check out the combined images below.

See you in Indy!

GIJoeCon.com debuts first look at 2013 G.I. Joe Convention Exclusives!

Well what do you know?

The brochure has just barely hit mailboxes, and we have our first look at the 2013 G.I. Joe Convention Exclusives.  And…well… wow.  So far, so friggen GOOD.

GIJoeCon.com has fired up their Convention Exclusives section and we now have a look at Cobra Mortal, Cobra Letal, and the Frag-Viper!  All I can say is hoooooly wow.  They NAILED that Frag-Viper.  Absolutely nailed it.  The most amazing thing that I can see is that apparently the Collectors’ Club is getting access to some state of the art tooling here!

Check out that Frag-Viper and Letal.  Eagle-eyed collectors will not that they use the body of the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 4 “Ultimate” Snake Eyes!  The texture on the chest, and the body suit itself is a dead give away.  Wow…this is pretty unprecedented for the Club to have access to this tooling so quickly.  Kudos to them and to Hasbro for making this happen.

In another nice touch, while the Club is revisiting the Cobra Mortal character, they elected to go with the only recently revealed “White Mortal” an extremely rare collectible that makes for one heck of a nice homage.

Take a peek at these incredible images on GIJoeCon.com, and I’ve mirrored them below as well.
