G.I. Joe Collectors Club reveals 2014 JoeCon Joe Colton!

Fans have been wondering exactly how the G.I. Joe Collectors Club was going to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of G.I. Joe with their 2014 Convention Exclusive Joe Colton.

As it turns out, it’s less of an homage to his 50 year birthday, and more a direct homage to his first appearance in the Marvel Comics way back when.  As an unabashed Real American Hero and Marvel Comics fan, I have zero problems with this.

I can see some of the 12″ fans finding some issues with it, but I am digging it.  I would imagine they had to retool the head to fit the neck ball a bit better, and they made some changes to the coat as well, by the looks of things.

As a reminder, this figure will be available with a display stand and photo backdrop in the 12″ Convention Set.  The G.I. Joe Collectors Club has mentioned that he will be available separately as well, though not with the same display stand and backdrop.  Check out GIJoeCon.com for the full details, and the image is mirrored below (along with the comic reference sent out by GIJoeCon on Twitter).

Toy Fair is incoming… what does Hasbro have in store for G.I. Joe?

GIJoe_50thEver since San Diego ComicCon last year it seems as if everyone has been casting their eyes forward towards  New York City, just waiting for Toy Fair.  During ComicCon last year it was mentioned that there were possible “surprises” in store for G.I. Joe fans come Toy Fair, but now as we stand a little more than a week away, what those surprises may be remains a very foggy and murky topic.

While we’ve seen some  press releases and articles for many different new Hasbro toy lines that are destined to be debuted at Toy Fair, the word on G.I. Joe has been surprisingly mum, only being referenced as having a “Spotlight” for it during the Toy Fair event, and not necessarily any new product to be shown.

This morning an AP article has started making the rounds, and within the context of that article, apparently Hasbro has said they will announce their plans for the 50th Anniversary of G.I. Joe at Toy Fair next weekend.  This has, understandably, gotten many fans all ramped up to see what we might have waiting for us on Saturday, February 15th (which is when the Hasbro event is slated to begin).

While I remain as excited as anyone else, I just ask that we temper our excitement a bit, and understand where G.I. Joe’s place in the current market is.  More and more action figure lines specifically (and toy lines in general) are shifting to a more licensed model, where you must have a major motion picture or animated series in order to catapult something into the market place.  I think we all know, G.I. Joe currently has none of that.

That being said, it’s evident from the Press Release that Hasbro will have something to say next weekend, but I would just ask that everyone key their expectations towards perhaps being more of a “say” and less of a “show”.  Regardless of what happens next Saturday, I’ll admit to being pleased with a flurry of G.I. Joe related news and information flying around the Internet this morning, and hopefully Hasbro is seeing that the brand still has some pop culture interest and enthusiasm.  At this point I’m not certain if I’m actually making the trip down to New York next weekend or not, but whatever happens, I’ll be following the news very closely and hope to hear something interesting.

Sponsor News – What’s new on Amazon.com – Complete Seinfeld for Sixty Bucks!

I promise this will be at least somewhat G.I. Joe related, but I won’t lie, I am an Amazon Affiliate and I may partake, from time to time, of promoting that fact here.

I will endeavor to make sure that I’m promoting content that is useful to readers, though.

We’ve got a big week at Amazon this week with lots of potential geek friendly wares.

1. Seinfeld: The COMPLETE SERIES– Less than $60!

2. Spider-Man Legends – With the Ultimate Green Goblin Build-A-Figure!

3. Down Set Fight!– Graphic Novel by big G.I. Joe fans Chris Sims and Chad Bowers

4. Thor: The Dark World– (Pre-Order; Set for Release February 25th)

5. G.I. Joe Eaglehawk Helicopter – (On sale for $38.34 with Prime Shipping!)

6. G.I. JOE: The Complete Collection Volume 3– (Issues #25 – 37, on sale for $34.10!)

7. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Vol. 8– (Issues #191 – 195, get caught up!)

Again, I do apologize for the shameless sponsorship and sales tactics, but I will be spreading the Amazon magic here from time to time.  Hopefully it’s useful!

Potentially big news for G.I. Joe fanfic writers and fiction enthusiasts

And yeah, I won’t pretend to not be feeling a personal connection here.

I’m not sure how many folks are aware of it (I certainly wasn’t) but the Amazon Kindle service has a “Kindle Worlds” library and service, which has generated licensing deals with many brands out there, allowing authors to write fiction based in those universes, and collect royalties for that fiction work.

As of today, Kindle Worlds as reached a licensing agreement with Hasbro for the world of G.I. Joe!  G.I. Joe is rich with fanfiction creators, and the idea that these people can potentially format and submit their work for official placement in the Kindle library is pretty huge, and I won’t lie, I’m really excited about this.

Some folks might remember, I first made my way into the online G.I. Joe fandom with my work on The Price of Peace, a 350 – 400 page monster novel that consumed a year of my life and helped spring board my dio-story universe.  The idea that work like this could actually generate some income and be available worldwide on the Kindle platform?  Yeah, that’s pretty bad ass right there.

The full details can be seen right here, and I’ll also copy the press release after the jump.

The G.I. Joe Collectors Club answers the Toxo Viper question…

…and yes, it’s Version 2!

Over on GIJoeCon.com the G.I. Joe Collectors Club has revealed the long-awaited Toxo-Viper from the 2014 G.I. Joe Convention set, and it… is…(to borrow a friend’s phrase) GLORIOUS.

Featuring a brand new removable helmet and some fantastic Pursuit of Cobra/30th Anniversary parts, this figure is simply spectacular.  Great colors, awesome helmet design…  Toxo perfection.  He’ll look awesome next to the FSS Cesspool, but now we need some Sludge Vipers!

Check out GIJoeCon.com for the details and the image is mirrored below.

Another GIJoe Convention reveal today… could it be the Toxo Viper?!

So as we’ve come to expect the G.I. Joe Collectors Club Tweeted a clue to today’s reveal, and it is as follows:

So considering the Toxo-Viper’s nickname as the “Leaky Suit Brigade” and the fact that the filecard reads:

“Needless to say, being a Toxo-Viper is not something a Cobra Trooper aspires to be.  In fact, the assignment is meted out as punishment for major offenses.”

…says to me that today we might just get our first look at the Cobra Toxo-Viper.  Will it be based on Version 1 or Version 2?  It almost seems, with such a focus on the Eco Warriors, that Version 2 makes more sense.  But I suspect that Version 1 is probably more in demand.

I think from purely a playability perspective I’d prefer Version 2.  I’d be too worried that Version 1 would be a Hazard Viper repaint, and while that’s a neat enough figure, it’s not poseable at all and doesn’t have a whole lot of “fun factor”.  Seeing as how I’m currently frantically rewriting my dio-story to include some elements of this Convention Set, I’d prefer having Cobra Troopers that are well articulated, playable, and fun.  But we’ll see what happens!

Keep your eyes on GIJoeCon.com!

Preview for IDW G.I. Joe (Season 3) #13

If Paul Allor’s work on G.I. Joe Issue #12 is any indication, we’re going to be the lucky ones once Issue #13 hits comic stores tomorrow.  Diving back into the past of the Cobra organization, Allor managed to weave a very interesting historical tale, and nicely develop various different Cobra Commanders from centuries past, even though he only had a few pages to devote to each one.

This next issue continues that look back into the depths of Cobra’s history, and I’m excited to check it out.  Until then, take a peek at the preview below.

G.I. Joe #13

Paul Allor (w) • Robert Atkins, Alex Cal, Chris Evenhuis (p) • Steve Kurth (c)

GeneralsJoes Dio-Story Navigation Fixed

I did a major overhaul of my dio-story section last week, but in some cases (most notably the G.I. Joe and The Transformers story as well as the Miscellaneous stories) the navigation was still weird, with the “Previous” and “Next” links being above the images.

I have made some further CSS adjustments so the navigation for those other sections now match the GeneralsJoes section with the big “PREV” and “NEXT” arrows at the bottom of the page.

Sorry for any inconvenience, hopefully this will further enhance the enjoyment of these stories!  🙂

Be sure to follow the links in the drop down above, or the links below to check this all out:
