I’m sure we all knew it was coming, and as usual, Gyre-Viper from HissTank comes through with some more detailed images of pre-production samples of the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra Zartan (Desert Battle) and Storm Shadow (Jungle Assault). Some great shots of Zartan in disguise and very nice close ups. Excellent pictures, and some excellent looking new toys. Let’s hope these hit retail sooner rather than later, though indications seem to point to a Fall, 2010 release. As always, GeneralsJoes is endeavoring to get some more information about this release schedule…

The more I see this Zartan I feel two things:
1. I am glad that Sigma 6, DD comics, and the Rise of COBRA came along into the G.I. Joe world to color Zartan’s identity a bit. He certainly was never underdone back in the Marvel & Sunbow days, but he had become almost cliche. The modern Zartan we have here, along with his varied past and movie presence makes him more a wizard and mystery than even Snake Eyes. I am loving it.
2. This is going to be one bad dude like a force of nature for the G.I. Joe team to deal with. Destro is the techno arm of COBRA to be sure, and Zartan is quickly becoming much more clearly the mystical shaman of COBRA, like the opposite but equal force of Destro. Can the Commander focus these men and retain control as he stands between them? Man, this has me INSPIRED!
Love it. Want some more of it. Have not felt this level of story-craft on my own for G.I. Joe since the early days of DTC!!
On the Led Zeppelin symbol upon Zartan’s back, here is the basic meaning:
Bassist John Paul Jones’ symbol, which he chose from Rudolf Koch’s Book of Signs, is a single circle intersecting 3 vesica pisces (a triquetra). It is intended to symbolise a person who possesses both confidence and competence. It is also a water sign.
Another piece to the mystery of Zartan?
That Gyre-Viper is a wuss. This Zartan is top shelf!!
