One of the coolest things I saw from JoeCon photos in August had to have been this item. An Alpha Class vehicle that was a bad ass motorcycle that also turns into a suit of killer robot power armor?!? I mean, come on. How can that go wrong?
Well, Gyre-Viper from HissTank.com got his hands on a test shot, and early reports aren’t real encouraging. Sounds like the parts and pieces aren’t real sturdy and he wasn’t all that impressed. Of course keep in mind his is a test shot, and there’s a distinct possibility things will be a whole lot sturdier in final form.
I actually really like the figure, too. I thought Wraith was a pretty nice Anniversary figure (fragile arm cables aside) that got an undeservedly bad rap. The Wraith armor fits in seamlessly with the Rise and Pursuit of COBRA theme, so this looks pretty neat to me. The new head sculpt sells it, too.
Anyway, Gyre-Viper was cool enough to snap a ton of pics of his new acquisition, which I’m mirroring below. I’ll judge for sure once I get it in hand. It certainly looks pretty awesome, I think, but I’m a guy who likes playing with his toys, so we’ll have to see where it goes from there.

Sorry but Im not seeing a new sculpt there… to me it just looks like the regular wraith head, minus the paint…
Yup. Looks like the same head to me too. Pity. A new head could have gone a long way towards making this figure more unique, but it uses the entire Wraith mold with some ugly plugs in it. I like the concept, but I’ll definitely end up customizing the figure unless a lot changes before it’s released.
Looks more like a mishmash of toolings… after all, the pictures at JoeCon showed Flash’s head, an Accelerator Suit helmet and no wrist guns (so the arm attachments could clip on instead).
Heck, the pics here show the wrist guns DETACHED from the wrists so the arm attachments could be put on.
Never been a fan of Power Armor (ExoSquad was Great, both the Cartoon & the Toys) but this set looks like a Knock-off, I mean there is only armor on the front of the figure. Of course though, this set never did interest me anyways. Pass.
my interest in this? ZERO.
All those lugs make him look like a Centurion! Power extreme!
Yup. This one ranks lower than the Mole Pod w/Terra-Viper as far as my interest goes. Loved Robotech, but don’t need it in my GIJoe. Stupid idea.
Bad idea, what the hell are they trying to accomplish? I really hope this trend of stupid ideas end up soon.
Not a fan of this direction. Who is this figure supposed to be? Another Duke?
hey now …. no one was more disappointed with this than me… hahahaha. I had to put the thing together (many many times as one part would go on and another would fall off)… only to stare at the ‘finished’ product in disbelief…. as to how sub-par it was… for what could have been at least a FUN concept. Look at the brightside… at least (so far) this is the only one… they could have decided to do a whole line of these (bites tongue).
I love the idea, but I don’t like the use of Wraith at all. I enjoy having as unique a character as Wraith in my collection, and the blatant and seemingly complete reuse of his figure kinda sucks.
Still, I’m hoping for the best here.
I’d actually like to see them reuse the Mech molds. It would make a nice two pack with maybe some new versions of Sci-Fi and the Techno Viper.
I’m still sold on this. I can’t wait to get a few of these suckers in my hands.
I LOVE motorcycle armor! Great idea, totally getting one or two, and I’m so glad they are branching out in terms of tech. These will go great with the mechs they promised for later on!
Wow, surprised how many people don’t like this one. It’s dissapointing to hear it doesn’t want to stay together, though that might be why it’s a test shot. But I really want one. I loved Robotech but can’t afford many of the toys, so this works for me either way.
Well at least he wont have the same head or guns on his wrist when released…if the pics at SDCC were correct…….I like it!!!
I’m on the fence about this one. The pics from SDCC looked ok. But while I am a fan of Robotech I’m not sold on the idea of using this for GIJoe. The test shots aren’t helping things much. I’ll be a good boy and wait for the finished product to make up my mind. But so far I am not impressed.
If this thing turns out more like the SDCC sample and less like this test shot, I’ll be VERY happy. As it is, I still think this thing looks really cool, but I just hope it’s sturdier than it sounds. That will make or break this thing for me. I love the idea of the power armor, I’ve always been huge on the sci-fi angle for G.I. Joe, and I’m digging this, at least in concept. Hopefully it holds up in the execution.
It has potential, but Hasbro is better with hinges than interlocking plastic, if anyone remembers their BTR line. They should focus on transformation rather than building for the final design.
