It’s tough to tell if he’s being serious or not, but in an interview with Black Voices, Marlon Wayans talked a little bit about G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA. This is what he had to say:
Speaking of ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra,’ did you get into shape for it?
MW: I sure did. I gained 30 pounds for the role. I came in and read with Rachel Nichols, who plays Scarlett. I wanted to be Snake Eyes, but that part was taken.
What differences are there between you playing Ripcord and what we saw on the cartoon series?
MW: The main thing is that the character is black in the film. I’ve played a drug addict in ‘Requiem for a Dream,’ a thief in ‘The Ladykillers’ and a white girl in ‘White Chicks,’ so I can play any part. Rachel Nichols is also my romantic interest in the film, which wasn’t part of the cartoon series.
With the written word, it’s tough to translate sometimes…are Ripcord and Scarlett an “item” in the movie? I guess time will tell…
That was mentioned at the Comic Con Panel back in July. When asked for clarification, they said it was Ripcord hitting on Scarlett, but that the Scarlett/Snake Eyes pairing was in the film as well. Take with a grain of salt….
scarlett and ripcord are way better couple than scarlett and snake eyes.. she actually kiss ripcord, which means that she like hima a lot.
