I think many of us suspected that Sienna Miller might not return in the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but even if we weren’t certain about that, an interview with Britain’s “Time Out” magazine pretty much confirms it outright. As reported by IMDB, Miller feels as if she “compromised values” in her role as The Baroness in the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra film.
The actress says “I’m not very good at fighting. And I’m not very good at guns. And I’m not particularly aggressive. I had to wear sunglasses because every time I shot my gun I would blink. I was completely out of place, like this little midget running round in black leather winning fights, which was just absurd. They did a wondrous job with my wardrobe to make me look threatening…”
From the sounds of it, she wasn’t really invested in the initial film, and certainly doesn’t seem to be interested in returning to the Hollywood Blockbuster realm. She continues on with “…G.I. Joe (was) a great pay cheque. If, financially, I’m okay – which luckily I am – there’s no point in doing stuff that’s not right for me. It’s too much time away from home.”
So yeah. I’d say her days in black leather are done. Well, at least in the G.I. Joe franchise. :shifty:
I have no problem with this. Granted, I think she was actually very good in her role and I was pleasantly surprised, however I hated the way The Baroness was written into the first film as Duke’s fiancee and Cobra Commander’s sister, so I think if they are going to separate from Sienna Miller, chances are all the better that we might get a more “proper” Baroness this time around, if she appears at all.
Big thanks to GeneralsJoes reader m6d for the intel. Once again, check out the entire article on IMDB right here.
The only thing I hate more than poor casting is re-casting.
“I’m not very good at fighting. And I’m not very good at guns. And I’m not particularly aggressive….”
Maybe she got confused when she read the script. she thought she was playing the leather-clad supervisor of a teddy bear distribution warehouse.
“…I had to wear sunglasses because every time I shot my gun I would blink.”
perhaps she did blink…its a natural instinct and probably hard to control with limted experience. but, SGs are part of baroness’ character design. she had no real clue who she was playing. i think movies get that a lot more often than we realize.
look, besides snake eyes and storm shadow and a revamped destro and cobra commander……….i just as well see a whole new (LARGER!) set of characters anyway.
so, good try ms. miller…youve found that big hollywood’s not for you…and thats fine. personally, i liked the baroness you presented…even if you didnt.
thanks for your time and good luck.
No big deal. The stupid relation between Duke, Rex and Ana was the major flaw on the movie, and I´m glad at least one of them is gone (would be great if Serpentor kills Duke and Golobulus turn Rex into a snake, lol).
Few days ago, I was reading comics from the 90s, and there mentions on “Postbox:The Pit” about a live motion movie, casting Tom Cruise, Jean Claude Van Damme and Louis Gasset Jr. Do we need top stars to fill the roles on the 2nd movie? I think we don´t.
Really good films never need top stars to fill its roles. However, a good action film is helped along by well known action stars, which don’t neccessarily have to be top paid actors (Ray Park is a good example).
Reading the above statements by Sienna Miller and realizing how completely clueless she was/is about what her character was all about, it does seem like Sommers did some good work directing her as it seems on film that she pulled off the role quite well.
There’s no one really irreplacable from the original RoC, though I would be disapointed if Zartan was re-cast. Sienna did a good job as the Baroness but like we’ve seen by fans listing actresses who they think could play the Baroness, there is no shortage of them around. Personally I’d still love Rhona Mitra or even Kate Beckinsale as the Baroness. No more freaking blondes with wigs!!!
If only they would re-cast Duke.
Anyone else find it funny that the majority of the Joe fans are keeping their fingers crossed Duke is re-cast when before RoC came out most of us were pouring the hate on Wayans as Ripcord? Point is I guess, that Wayans actually did a half ass job, though the fact that he was Ripcord still causes much anger, but that doesn’t reflect on the actor really.
I’ve still got my fingers crossed Rachel Nichols is history. We need a REAL Scarlett for the new movie.
After this news, I would like it if instead of Recasting the role, they made it heriditary. Not only would it be an interesting divergance from the norm, but it would allow GI Joe to have successes while giving Cobra an air of immortality about it. Like the Russian system of immortals, when one soldier falls, another must rise to replace them in their duties.
Good for you Sienna. Go back to doing Sundance films instead of popcorn flicks. You’re too good for geek films. I support her decision completely.
I guess Channing Gaycum is still in the movie.
Maybe Gi Joe the sequel will be an anti military film and win an Academy Award.
All she really was was eye candy. She did an OK job though.
but I dont think it will really matter anyway, what with the director they picked. Everyone will have a dance roll. I cant wait to see the boot scottin boogie line dance showdown.
oh thank god now we can get someone who really fits the part looks wise i never liked her. there are hundreds of dark haired actresses out there who need next to nothing to look the part. and can we get a lady who appears to eat this time please.
yeah…thats right……its going to be a musical.
do you really believe that?
or is that just going to be the standard joke until further notice?
Handler, youre a comedic pioneer.
(and for the sake of education…..cinammon gets rolls….actors get roles.)
I see you’re talking about dance. :X
LOL, 788. That bit with the ‘roles’ and ‘rolls’ was pure gold! However, I’m fully expecting the ‘dance sequence’ jokes to be the standard until we see the teaser trailer (Lord knows I made a few when I was telling my friends about who they got as the director). As far as Sienna not returning to her role as the Baroness? Meh. Who cares? I think the girl who played Scarlett was much better eye candy, and over-shadowed by the B-lister Miller. The truth is, nobody in the first movie made enough of an impact for me to give a rat’s ass about who would, or wouldn’t return.
ZZZIiiiiinnnnggg Ouch 😉
