Well, it’s kind of a review. Since there wasn’t much that changed (other than the color) I didn’t necessarily go real deep into it, but I did talk about some of the differences of the two and of course included a bunch of pictures.
Check out the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page, or just check out the review directly right here.
Nice pics, Justin. I would add just one thing to this brief review, and that is that the spring mechanism on these black v5s is MUCH improved over the brown version. I’ve yet to have my black version become unclasped with pushing the button first. If I even look at my brown tank funny, it goes off.

I just put together my first of the new HISS last night– a black version that I had snagged on Ebay. (No Ross hook-ups here.) I have to admit that I was pretty darned impressed with how slick it looked and how solid the construction felt. Apparently many of the issues that happened with the brown ones were corrected in this later run. It’s just too bad that Hasbro isn’t opting to release more black HISSes in 2011 and is instead going to a crimson color.
Yeah… this is how you redesign the classic tank!
Good god, that thing’s beautiful.
I didn’t mind the brown of the first release until I saw this.
Wow…
So there were some tweaks on the action feature with the black colored ones then?
I didn’t mind the brown so much on the first one, but the fact that some fans had issue with the action feature in the first place.
2010 was a great year for G.I. Joe product announcements, but the delays, production errors, cancellations and the DELAYS make it the worst year for Hasbro in a long, long time. With as long as Hasbro had to get the HISS right, with as much press and story they put around it to make it the center of the Pursuit of COBRA story line, it is absurd that the error became the standard and this corrected tank got limited distribution. And the salt in the wound? 2011 Hasbro brings us a Crimson HISS. Worst product fiasco since the BTR line.
Irritatingly cool review of the right/wrong HISS Justin.
I may be conflicted, but this is still awesome 🙂
What the Count said to a T.
I have these, from Ross, and I like it a lot more than the brown. But good grief, Hasbro! Do you read your message boards? Everyone wants the Black HISS, you know that distribution has failed in this line, and instaed of moving the well loved black HISS into the new lineup, you repaint it AGAIN?
This hobby is hard to enjoy when not everyone can enjoy it sometimes. You know?
