What’s on Joe Mind Episode 91 is online!

Yes, the What’s on Joe Mind crew went radio silent for a little while, but now we’ve come roaring back, even if we are missing our trusty producer Gary.

While Gary continues to take a little bit of a break, we spent this issue talking customs with the awesome folks from the JoeCustoms Podcast.  The episode ends up being a very informal kind of “chew the G.I. Joe fat” round table, where we ask some customizing questions, they ask us some questions, and we just hash it all out.  We did take some time for news and mailbag questions, though!

Check out the latest episode on Podbean, or also embedded below.  Show Notes are, as always, after the jump.

Darkness Falls Behind the Scenes – The Cobra Compound

In case you hadn’t noticed, I’d officially announced the begin date of my next Dio-Story “Darkness Falls” via YouTube, and I’ve been working hard continuously since then to make sure that deadline is met.

If you’ve been wondering why some FSS Reviews have lagged behind, well hopefully that provides some insight.  🙂

As part of my work on the Darkness Falls dio-story, I dove headlong into set building once again, which was something I only touched on briefly in previous stories.  This time around I ventured into the Facebook Group depths, hitting up the DioStructure group, and immediately was inspired.  I posted this article over on JoeCustoms first, because I’ve been soliciting advice from many of those great customizers, and I think they helped me develop this Cobra Compound into what it is.  But now I think enough time has passed that I can post it up here as well in case anyone has missed it.  Read the full story to see the run down!

Audio posted for Planet ComicCon G.I. Joe 50th Anniversary Panel!

Shame on me!  I missed the email notification, but Rob from Joe A Day posted the audio from the Planet ComicCon G.I. Joe: 50th Anniversary panel that he told us all about a short while ago.

Appearing on the panel with him are the infamous Twitziller and Brian from Codename: Iowa.  A really great trio of hardcore G.I. Joe fans who represented the brand very well.

Check out the audio at Joe A Day.com and enjoy the panel!  Kudos to these guys for spreading the word of the G.I. Joe brand!

G.I. Joe 3 falls behind Jem and the Holograms – script being “perfected”

So when word emerged of the new “Jem and the Holograms” film being developed by G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu (among others), some Joe fans perked up their ears.  Isn’t the third G.I. Joe film underway?  What’s up with that?

Well, Chu had a conversation with good friend of GeneralsJoes Brian Truitt from USA Today, and made some startling revelations that fell under the radar a bit (until /Film picked up on them).

According to Chu, The G.I. Joe 3 script is still getting finalized, so he was able to fit Jem into his schedule.  But that does beg the question, with the length of time it takes to make a film, how “little” a window of time will this be, and how far does it push back the third Joe film?

Already some fans are calling the move catastrophic and saying it’s a clear sign that there is no faith in the third Joe film.  I will be taking a more measured approach myself.  You can check out the Twitter conversation with Brian Truitt below, and I am reaching out to Mr. Chu myself for some hopeful clarification.  I’ll pass on whatever I can get.

First real details revealed of Community “G.I. Jeff” episode

Entertainment Weekly has provided the first tidbits of information about the upcoming G.I. Jeff episode of Community, and it’s looking pretty awesome.

According to executive producer Chris McKenna “We do a typical G.I. Joe opening where G.I. Joe is battling Cobra, then something very un-G.I. Joe and something very Community happens, and it becomes this inciting incident that gets our characters in hot water in the G.I. Joe realm.”

McKenna was quite complimentary, saying “[G.I. Joe] was something from our childhood that was very important to us and we had fond memories of it, and we thought it would be a cool way to do another animated episode,”

Some screen shots were shown as well, which I’ve mirrored below.  A pretty neat tribute.  Check out the EW article right here.
