So, having a lull in product means I jump in my way back machine! This time around, I’m reviewing the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Skysweeper Jet w/ Air Raid. A Firebat repaint and retool, this little plane packs a big punch.
Check out the review on my Rise of Cobra Review Page, or just click here.
Stay tuned, because I’ll be doing quite a few more “old school” reviews over the next little while as we wait for more new product to hit.
That’s not Air Raid/Airborne/Airhead or whatever they want to call him… he’s Barrel Roll plain and simple.
This is one of my favorite vehicles. I have a couple of them and wish I had room for more. Its got a great arctic color scheme that could also apply to a naval deployment as well. And the new parts look fantastic.
Agreed with MS. He works quite well as Modern Era Barrel Roll.
And this is probably one of the better Alpha Vehicles we got during ROC. The addition of the skids and the exhaust really makes it feel like a different vehicle than the Firebat.
Noted that the card art for this figure’s (Air Raid’s) face is identical to the current/upcoming card art for POC Duke.
I agree with MS as well. I use him a Barrel Roll as well. Great Fig, even for a straight repaint, and cool vehicle retool.
Yup…he’s Barrel Roll…I ended up slapping the Jet Glider from the RoC Hawk on him and VIOLA!
I use Air Raid as Barrel Roll as well
Yeah, this was a great set! I made a little rant in my review about how it’s such a stark difference from the previous vehicles at this price point. The drill car, ofr instance, comes with a weaponless figure and barely anything to show for playability. This, on the other hand, brings an already great vehicle with a ton of new parts, AND a full set of weapons and a helmet for the figure. On top of that, this thing is huge compared to the drill car, but goes for the same price! Never understood that.
And yeah, as everyone else has said: That’s Barrel Roll. No question.
I don’t like the painted face, which looks cheap and cartoony, and I wish the fanny pack thing was kept black, but I still want this set. I could do a lot with that figure, custom-wise. (Barrel Roll was after my time… unless you count the Sigma version in the Land, Sea and Air three-pack).
I doubt they’ll still be in stores in July, alas.
Monte, it’s still available on HasbroToyShop, but I’m guessing you’d be able to get it secondhand when you get back. They were pretty prevalent at Marshall and TJ Maxx stores over the winter.
