After weeks and months of silence and somewhat frustrating lack of updates from Hasbro or The Hub, the G.I. Joe: Renegades publicity train has officially left the station and is barreling down the tracks. While we’ve seen some peeks here and there of the Renegades universe, here, we finally get the full on G.I. Joe: Renegades launch trailer treatment. And it is good. Very good.
Check out the embedded video below.
By now, folks know I’m eager to see this get rolling. This trailer has made me even more eager. Animation is nice and smooth, the story certainly doesn’t seem too stilted for the younger age set. Time will tell. I can’t wait for the 26th so we can get a real idea of how things are going to progress.
Well, I’m officially starting to get excited about it. Very cool 🙂
YES!!!!
This looks great! GI Joe – back in animation! Hell yeah!
hey everybody! hows it going today?
animation is nice and smooth??? are we watching the same clip?
i thought the ugly character designs would be the downfall of this series, but it looks like the choppy, jumpy, low quality of the animation may be worse!
yeah i know it’s just a 30 second clip, but it just looks so amateurish! resolute was way better than this!
sorry to be the one voice of dissent here, but this is a major letdown. the characters have that weird big-lipped gangly-limbed style that Peter Chung uses, but the animation has NONE of the grace and fluidity of Aeon Flux.
i’m a HUGE animation fan in almost all its forms, but this one looks like a half-assed effort!
wonder if the toys will be any good…..
>in a hypnotic monotone<
c'mon josh…..why dont you calm down and enjoy this nice cool drink of kool-aid.
its the favorite flavor of all Renegades fans; RenegadeGoldenShower!.
haha…..no one get your digitized camouflage blades in a bunch……im just funnin' about.
Right there with you Josh. Cheers, 788! Would it be impolite to offer the renegades fans a box of kleenex to sit by their chairs? I’d hate for them to have to get up and miss even ONE second of that lovely choppy animation…
the fact is……as much as i may bag on the animation, and the story for that matter…it actually makes me somewhat upset that im not liking it. looking at how much fun Joe has been for me (all of us) since 2007, of course id love to enjoy a new Cartoon. however, i can not, and will not, enjoy it just for the sake of it being Joe.
to those who are liking what youre seeing…thats fantastic…your subjectivity is just different from mine.
want to know how different my subjectivity may be….?
remember this summers flop “Jonah Hex”?
ive watched it 6 times.
hows that for going against the proverbial grain?
just in case no one is wondering…..let me not clarify something for none of you…..
i say 2007 because when 25th hit…thats when i got back in. ive loved joe since its 4″ inception…but as i grew into adulthood….only admired the lines/iterations that followed from afar.
had it not been for 25th, my only interaction with joe would likely be visits to YoJoe.com checking out the archived pics and thinking “oh i had that”, “i wanted that” or the sometimes “what the hell is that?”….looking at you BUGG.

Dear God Man! How are still able to think complete thoughts/ How can you survive without curling into a ball and wondering about the absense of a loving Creator Being?
As far as Renegades is concerned, the animation hasn’t really grabbed me nor has the story. Maybe once I see an episode or two I’ll change my mind. But right now,I’m not tickled about it. I don’t hate it, but I’m not getting all excited
lets see…..here’s a small list of movies i view repeatedly…dont know all the numbers…
Jonah Hex……..6 times
GI Joe………..17 (2 of those were opening weekend)
Jurassic Park……7 times in its theatrical run
The Crow………6 times at theater…god knows how many on dvd
V for Vendetta…no idea…but at one point we watched it at least once a week at work.
Star Wars ANH…………no way of knowing AT ALL.
Wow. just wow.
I can’t even keep track of how many times I’ve seen movies I’ve viewed repeatedly
In regards to the animation: The “chop” is certainly there, but not distracting to me, for sure. Has anyone ever seen the show EXO Squad”? I tried watching that the other day, and while the story and characters seem great, I don’t think I can sit through it because of how bad the animation is. The new Joe clips didn’t bother me in that way. We’ll see. A full episode will be the determining factor.
when i love a movie……..i LOVE a movie.
Great comparison, Nas. Exo-Squad happens to be one of my favorite animated series ever, even with the horrible animation. That is a perfect example of how even with choppy or sketchy animation, if the story is good, that can be overlooked and the series can be really enjoyable.
I know a LOT of folks who absolutely love the Exo-Squad animated series, even with the shoddy 90’s chop. I’m one of them.
Obviously your opinion differs, which just goes to show how varied folks’ opinions are on the quality of animation and how it impacts the series as a whole.
The noses are what I think throw the character designs out of whack the most for me. They’re all so large and odd shaped.
Animation-wise their lips move funny when they talk. Especially, Duke who doesn’t appear to have a bottom lip.
@Justin: I’m gonna try and watch EXO Squad anyway, because the first episode really is pretty solid, as far as establishing the settings, characters, and mood. I’m hoping those things can, indeed, transcend the animation.
In regards to Renegades, I really like the conceit of the Joe team being on the run. It makes much more sense, in a modern setting, that a group as large and well equipped as Cobra would be either respected by the world at large or so underground as to be practically nameless. (like in the IDW comics) If a group like Cobra existed on American soil as originally portrayed in the Hama comics, they would have been eliminated with extreme prejudice, ala Waco. The only way they could survive would be as an independent nation, which I think is why Hama made Cobra Island, which was brilliant.
