The VAMP was reviewed yesterday, and now the Cobra Fury has been added to the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page. Using the Rage as a base with some retooling scattered throughout, the Fury is a Cobra Urban Operations armored vehicle that suits the Alley-Vipers perfectly.

Where did you ever pick up the idea back in the day that the Rage was supposed to be a desert assault vehicle? It’s got the “Urban” moniker all over it and was always featured moving fast down the streets and alleys. The color of COBRA vehicles and troops never really blended in to an environment anyhow. The way I see the Rage/Fury is similar to the WW2 tank battles you might have had across Europe, sort of like the Sherman vs Panzer of the film Kelly’s Heroes. The difference is that this is more of an armored car than a tank and relies on speed and armaments over armor.
I’ve never had the Rage/Fury so I’m very much looking forward to snagging one of these, perhaps more so than the completely new VAMP. It was the same case for me with the HISS and Snow Cat. I never had the Snow Cat either so it’s a thrill to be able to get my hands on brand spanking new vintage vehicles.
As always Justin, thanks for the review. I agree 100% with Red Sox.
I too have always wanted a Rage/Fury, but have never had one. This looks to be the best one yet! I love all of the little features like the mine layer and the front mounted minigun.
Honestly, this driver doesn’t seem so bad. As long as the driver has the proper knives and pistols which fit in with the included sheathes, I’m happy. Nothing pissed me off more then when ROC drivers (Firefly, Scrap Iron) and Cartoon pack figures (Stalker, Snake Eyes) actually came with sheathes and holsters, but nothing to put into them. So far, all POC figures/drivers have been ok.
I would like a stand, however.
It’s pretty cool, and I most def want one, however the physics of this vehicle has always bothered me, especially in the amount of weaponry included vs. the space on the vehicle. Where’s all the ammo go for those chain guns, especially the two under the primary turret? If you tell me it’s stored in the gun, I give the weapon a .05 second burst before it’s depleted.
I’m just sayin’. I still like the vehicle, and I can get over that stuff pretty easily, but this is one of the vehicles that absolutely sacrifices some semblance of realism for play value. I’m OK with it, but it’s just so obvious.
Again, great review. Can’t wait to nab one of these, believe it or not after that rant.
three-cheese craparoni.
788, do you like _anything_ from PoC? I only ask because I’ve seen only negative comments from you on the reviews.
Sweet! Looking forward to this one. I join the group on here who never had one as a kid, however, I don’t even remember seeing this thing before! At any rate, it’s very cool!
I had both previous versions of this tank, and still have the 15th Anniversary one. The Rage is probably my favorite COBRA tank after the original HISS, and the paint improvements Hasbro made on this one make it even better. I never got the chance to army build the previous Rage tanks but I definitely plan on stockpiling this one. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the write-up and pictures!
I like the comparison shot with the ’98 Rage. I very much liked the black base on the ’98, but the blue really always felt a little too bright to me. Now where’s that ’90 model?
I can see how one would think it could be a desert vehicle, being tan in ’90, but mostly from the little I remember of seeing the Rage in animation it was often scooting across the sand.
I’m very on the fence about buying it, as much as I really like the looks of this one compared to the previous two versions I have had. To me it really is the better in color so far.
I think I prefer the old wheels, though. In my mind, this thing in imagination is only as heavy as a compact pickup when it comes to how the weight was distributed by the wheels. (there is a tundra off-road wheel out there on the ‘net that kind of examples what I’m thinking) Now, the new wheels can very much do the same thing, too, I think the unique is more interesting.
Also, it’s gotta be wide to get low, always dug that, but I think this is a design that was a little more environment-stuck, like the Cobra Wolf. That’s why I’m on the fence, I don’t see myself battling the Fury against the Equalizer in the woods. The Rage/Fury is really more of a fast-moving platform, and I think it really opposes the mobile battle bunker in some ways.
I like the big bolt details, and plate welds, and all the little extra details that are, and were, on it. Engine covers are awesome. The drivers seats areas always felt a little under-done, though. I’m not even confident to say that that is where the thing is driven. But that is a feature that is always really hidden, but an area that really could have used modern improvement.
