And neither do I. :shifty:
While I’ve been spending a lot of time in various places over the last couple of weeks complaining about my lack of options for Pursuit of Cobra Wave 2, that is no longer the case. Not only is brick and mortar retail nationwide apparently flush with these great new figures (something I sadly know nothing about up here in the boonies), but there are several options through online retailers that also offer these prizes.

$20 for a jungle viper? hahaha….
I can’t help to wonder if this means we’ll get wave 3 before Christmas.
What m6d said…I’m glad I found mine at retail (all three that I’ll ever buy) as well as a Recondo. There is no way I will, or anyone should, pay $20 for these figs now. If the line was canceled, I get it. But stuff like this is just scalping, I think.
Whatever. This economy is built on supply and demand, so I can’t fault the sellers. It’s just kinda lame, but I guess you could blame me for buying three just as easily. It just seems like Hasbro oughta make more of these army-builders than not, as opposed to including two SE (one released already!) in a Wave 2 box.
Rant over. Carry on, troops.
I do have to back up SmallJoes, somewhat. Being a relatively small time e-tailer is a big challenge, and folks without the buying power of Wal-Mart, Target, or TRU really need to find a way to balance the desirables and undesirables. If they price all figures equivolently, they’re sold out of Jungle Vipers within minutes, and are then stuck with all of the non army builders.
Being stuck with all of these non-army builders means SmallJoes cannot order refill cases or replenish their stock, and then they’re stuck with these figures that cannot sell, and not only that, but they haven’t recouped what they’ve already sold, so they’re losing money (plus taking up space with all of this extra product).
Many of these online e-tailers do this business out of an attic or garage (or very limited warehouse space) and they just have to do some things to ensure they stay in business.
Understandably, it seems harsh to the buyer, and I can certainly see that perspective, but I have personally witnessed an e-tailer taking a hard stance against overpricing army builders, and they were out of business a few months later. A sad fact.
I totally get what you’re saying Justin, I was finding the humor in thought of someone paying the $20 for mass produced figure not that Smalljoes would sell it for that much. It’s not like its an ebay only canceled figure, or a variant like Wraith, or running change like v1 Stalker, or dare I even mention the name… Sgt Slaughter. Those at least have some rarity to them.
I just got back from Target (I live in the Dallas area) and they had multiples of each wave 2 figure on the pegs. I’m a little strapped for cash, and I wanted all of them (well, maybe not Snake Eyes with tornado kick) but only picked up Zartan, Recondo, and Jungle Viper.
I’ve only got Zartan of this wave so far… I didn’t see JV, and I assume the Joes will linger longer than the Cobras. I’m looking forward to finding Dusty and Recondo at some point, for sure. Anyway, this Zartan is great; my only complaint is that some of these new head designs have the neck pointed too far forward; not impossibly, but it looks uncomfortable.
Found wave 2 tonight at Target. Went with a Jungle Viper. Very nice Night Viper update. They had everyone but Recondo, going to have to find him down the road.
I found them at my Target today. Picked up Dusty and the Jungle Viper. I have no complaints on either. The JV’s armor works much better than I thought it would, and doesn’t hinder him much, and I think Dusty’s a great redesign. I’m amazed at the posability on these new figures.
m6d, no worries, man. Believe me, I’m in the hunt for a few Jungle Vipers myself, and I don’t really like seeing those prices, but I can see where they’re coming from.
found em all at target…
got 2 jungle vipers, dusty, zartan, and recondo.
stared at recondo for two days and returned him.
Although more expensive for justifiable reasons, the etailers to provide a source for us Canucks and other international fans that get denied at brick and mortar. A premium for sure, but at least they are obtainable and not at the cold mercy of the auction process.
The answer is simple, buy a case of wave 2. You can sell the second set and with the sky-rocketing price of Jungle-Viper, you’ll probably recover closer to 3/4 of your total cost instead of just the half you sold. 🙂
I wonder how serious Hasbro is about doing a Dreadnoks set… I just picked up Recondo and all I can see is Gnawgahyde begging to happen. The head, hat, and gun would all work perfectly (and the bear traps would be a great addition).
This line is just blowing me away at every turn, not just in the interpretations of the characters themselves, but in the varied and incredible ways I can see them being recycled down the road. I have yet to purchase a single one that I’d hesitate to buy in a repainted/frakenjoe’d form.
