And this is it… just as Wave 2 has started hitting retail, I’m posting the last of the Pursuit of Cobra Wave 2 figures. Firefly was somewhat of a mixed bag to me…his bulky vest limits some range of motion, but he looks so incredible, it almost makes up for it. I absolutely love his demonic alternate head sculpt, and the overall look of the figure is amazing, I just wish he could move better all geared up.
But enough synopsis…read the entire review on the Pursuit of Cobra Review Page, or directly right here.
You jerk! Now I need to get another Firefly!
Just joking, of course. Like I’ve said before, using these figs as new characters is right up my alley (viper), and this guy is definitely NOT Firefly in my view. Certainly a demolitions guy, but not the ninja/saboteur that I consider Firefly to be. And since there are already GREAT Firefly’s out there (as your pics show) this guy is something else, and that awesome head lends to that perfectly. Plus…good grief he’s large!
Great review, great toy!
read the damned file card. under mission equipment…its a sonar 360degree blah gizmo thing with a spectrum.
remember that sonar system batman uses in “the dark knight” to find joker…its that thing.
Uh, yeah, I read the filecard, and I talked to the Hasbro reps at the Con, hence this line in the review:
“Sure, during the Hasbro tour, it was explained away as some bizarre 360 degree monitoring device, but still, the evil, sleek, demon-like look seemed to serve no purpose other than look totally bad ass…”
I know the function, but that doesn’t explain why it looks so demonic. It’s still cool, but thanks for the advice, anyway.
its demonic to create F.E.A.R. of course!
didnt mean to come across as i did……without the inflection of speech, the humor i was hoping for was lost.
1. i yell at you to read the card…
2. i totally mis-name the technology…
3. i sit on the toilet………wait what? (little “dispicable me” humor there!)
regardless, it does look great…after all of the fireflys ive bought, and the few i kitbashed, im kinda ready for a different look for him.
Ah, don’t worry about it. Thanks for mentioning it, though. Never ever say the words “i sit on the toilet” on this site again, though.
Yeah, this guy impressed me way more than I thought! I love the idea for army builders, but I managed to really like this idea for Firefly. I got into the idea for the helmet on the card, too. I just love how he can bascially see all around him, and the “sonar” bit makes me think he’ll be able to hear better as well. He’ll be running around setting up bombs and able to avoid everyone!
Funny thing was, I actually thought his helmet reminded me of the 90’s battle corps Viper, though I know they’re quite different. I think if they repainted this guy in those old colors you’d see what I mean.
but, its my favorite time to stare at unopened Joes!
I have a feeling that Firefly was originally going to be a Neo-Viper. Look at his armor, along with the helmet: he looks like a version of the Neo-Viper, a composite between the cinematic version and the 2002 figure. He’s big and intimidating like a Neo-Viper…but I bet Hasbro is satisfied with the sales of the Neo-Vipers/Crimson Neo-Vipers, and didn’t want to upset the apple cart.
