Continuing on the fury of the GeneralsJoes Review-A-Rama, today I finish off reviewing last year’s Wal-Mart Exclusive Battle Stations sets… saving perhaps one of the best for last, the Cobra Surveillance Port w/ MARS Officer and Tele-Viper. You can also hit up the Rise of Cobra Review Page to catch up on other reviews you may have missed along the way.
This is a neat looking set, but the one I bought my 5 year old doesn’t want to stay together. It has been shedding parts since I took it out of the package, and that was even before it got into his hands. I don’t remember the one I had as a child being so prone to falling apart, but I think this may be made of a different type of plastic (although it’s been ~20 years since I’ve laid hands on that one).
These were odd sets. Walmart seemed reluctant to carry them, or even shelve them for purchase during the late 4th quarter. They were actually a great dollar/toy value, and old school collectors wanted all of them to “complete” their 25th Anniversary collection (is it ever really complete?). The odd part was to include non-classic figures from the Rise Of COBRA, and not necessarily good ones but to otherwise stick so close to the 1980’s formula. If these had the new-classic 25th style Viper and Tele-Viper rather than RoC style, they would have rocked the socks off most people in the Northern hemisphere. As it is, I still bought four copies of this one, because I have no shame 😉
