I’m really hoping we get a new ‘proper’ Leatherneck at some point during POC. Leatherneck is an important character in the Joe mythos (due to his use in the 2nd season of the cartoon), and didn’t feel the Gung Ho/Ripper Franken-joe did a good job of capturing the feel of the character. It just seemed…lazy, IMO. Thanks for the review, Justin!
Hey Hawk: Does that gun fit into the holes on the HISS V?
I’m actually interested in this, and never owned one of the Ferrets. It reminds me of something I saw used in the Vietnam era…basically a flatbed hauler. I like the idea of a more utilitarian vehicle where weaponry is secondary.
Also, if it does have confluence with the POC weapons, how does the HISS mini-gun look on it?
Bleh. Three stars was too generous. Absolutely nothing new brought to the table here, and Hasbro fumbled the easy homage that would’ve made this a real collector’s item.
Of course, seeing as this is going to be one tough piece for the completists to get a hold of, that might actually be for the best.
This version of Leatherneck is actually what inspired my next article for the site. You’ll know why when I send it to you.
I actually like the utility platforms, it makes it look like a real-world utility ATV. However, the spring-loaded launcher and miscolored Leatherneck make this one fairly dissapointing. So I won’t shed a single tear that this never made it to mass distribution. Thanks for the review, Justin!
I was really looking forward to this because that ATV is quite like what Army Special Forces has been using in Afghanistan. This brings me back to the very first GI Joe vehicles of 1982-85, which were believable enough that you could imagine them being used in actual combat. I can imagine this being used alongside a VAMP or AWE Striker.
I’m still hoping these will turn up in TJ Maxx or Big Lots. I’d really like to pick up a few.
I think the Ferret still has a good amount of potential. I would have waited for this to be on clearance myself, had this been everywhere in this neck of the woods.
I do think the racks are a useful idea, just not in the forms they came out as on here.
I like that the launcher has those stabilizing legs. It’s less than imposing just being transported…does another guy fire it from the rear deck?
It’s kind of a “looks” thing, not much figure-to-vehicle interaction that I can see.
Now, if they put out a base Ferret with a ton gear to custom for whatever needs…now that would be cool.
