It’s that time of month again, and IDW gives us their full solicitations for June of 2010. It looks like 2010 is going to be a big year for G.I. Joe in the comics world, even without a movie or a full run of action figures to keep hope alive. It did take me a while, but I’m finally becoming at least somewhat invested in the IDW universe. G.I. Joe #15 was a great read, G.I. Joe: Cobra has been fantastic (and is now an ongoing series!), and G.I. Joe: Origins has really been picking up steam as well.
June looks like it’s going to give us Zartan’s introduction to IDW in G.I. Joe: Origins, as well as a new take on Serpentor in G.I. Joe: Cobra. Really looking forward to it, and IDW is doing a great job filling the holes in what could have been a tame year, G.I. Joe wise. Click on the “Read the rest of this entry” link below for the full details, and thanks to The Terror Drome for the announcement.

Bow before the image of the Supreme Cobra Emperor…. SERPENTOR!!!!!
I love the dead snakes around him.
I think that’s him on the cover of the cobra issue. For those who are reading the books, who is sharing the other half of Destro’s face?
It’s got to be a character we haven’t seen yet unless I’m being a forgetful freddy here.
More and more I see you saying “I’m not alone” or “the fans are estatic.”
I read the same boards as you Justin. I see the same people who always like anything and everything going ooh an ahh over every new thing that’s coming out, toy, media or print.
I don’t see a massive campaign getting behind the IDW series. I don’t see the entire fandom getting estatic over the mail-in C.C.
It’s starting to get like the old days where everybody just loves to ooh and ahh over every single thing that’s coming, because some are afraid that if we don’t like it, Hasbro won’t make any more toys, IDW won’t print anymore comics and there won’t be anymore DVD’s or media online.
That’s kind of the reason the Joes are in the situation they are in now, people more interested in giving praise out of fear or flattery instead of just saying, this is cool, this could be better, or, in all honesty, I like this, some more like this, but it’s not got the entire fandom beeming with excitement.
And Justin, your argument might be you like it. I get it you like the comic, and you like pretty much any and all things so long as it’s not the classics, but besides you, WildWeasel and JoshDahl on the Terrordrome and maybe 10 on Hisstank, this comic isn’t creating or generating a massive buzz. And when you say “I’m not alone” and you just mean the other 12-20 people who stated they like it, that’s not anything worth bragging on padre.
Yes, I know Hasbro reads your blog, but you can stop making everything out to be the greatest thing to ever come each and everytime.
Contructive criticism, likes and dislikes are great. And they’re what’s needed. Flattery is not.
Hasbro, IDW, yes, you have some good things available or on the way, but none of it is the Holy Grail. And at least some of us understand that’s not going to derail you from making any more future product.
I haven’t been reading regularly but assuming that IDW Destro’s background doesn’t differ too much from Original Recipe Destro’s then I suspect that’s the first Destro ancestor to get imprisoned on the left.
Alpine, you must have missed me talking about IDW for the past year.
I said I “was not alone”. And I’m not. I never claimed it was bowling the entire fandom over. I never claimed it was the best thing since sliced bread. Even non-Joe fan review sites like IGN Comics have been coming around on the main title. Where it used to grade in the 5 range (and a well-deserved 5, in my mind), it’s now grading over 7.
Never once did I make any bragging comments, I just mentioned that folks in the fandom (and outside the fandom) who have been talking down the IDW title over the first 14 issues (myself included) are now giving it more positive feedback.
As far as Cobra Commander goes, since you’re on the same boards as me, I assume you saw that the first Rise of Cobra Cobra Commander got absolutely raked over the coals by everyone, and some would say he deserved it. I liked the figure, many did not. But that hasn’t happened with the mail away version. Maybe the guys who hate it just aren’t talking about it, but I certainly don’t see the fandom-wide hate for the design of this figure compared to the original release.
But don’t pay attention to me, I’m just afraid of Hasbro, so I’ll never say anything objective… :shifty:
“But that hasn’t happened with the mail away version. Maybe the guys who hate it just aren’t talking about it, but I certainly don’t see the fandom-wide hate for the design of this figure compared to the original release.”
Or moved on..
Take Hisstank.com for instance. March 25th 2009 the most users online ever. You had the 25th Classics fans still around, you had the Resolute fans around and you had the handful of newbies coming in because of ROC.
Saying you can get a couple dozen–at most–who say they like the C.C. doesn’t mean the masses of those who haven’t been too crazy about ROC are all of a sudden liking new stuff and forgetting about the classics or the Resolute stuff.
It means that’s who you’ve got who likes it–period. No kids, no massive collection of fans like the 2007-2009 days, just those who like ROC or anything new as long as it’s G I JOE.
Guess what Justin! That means POC will peg-warm like ROC!
And that’s if it even makes it to retail!
It’s okay Justin. It won’t kill you to say you don’t like something. And when you say you do, stop for a minute and think about how much you REALLY like it, instead of thinking you’re being cool by just going along with it for the sake of the brand and like it simply because it’s Joe, it’s new, and because you’re concerned Brian might read your comments and say, “Well, you know. We usually don’t listen to the fans. And you should know that now thanks to the apologists. But this time, we think you are important and we will cancel this.”

And now March 25th, 2010 one year later, look at the number and compare it.

Ummm… take a look around you, man. This is a toy website. I talk about plastic action figures, comic books and cartoons. There is absolutely not one part of this that I do because I “think I’m being cool”. I gave up trying to be cool when I was 14 years old.
I’m eager to hear more about this “Brian” guy, though. Who is he, and how does he wield all this power?
