I’ll tell you what the problem is with this figure. It’s the movie design, not the figure itself. I’ve said this about other RoC figures and it holds true especially for the Cobra troopers… the movie designs are uninspiring. I wish so hard that that wasn’t true and I’m hoping the movie makes them so kick ass I’ll HAVE to have armies of them. But the Neo-Viper, MARS Trooper and others just don’t get me excited. I love the way they are re-imagining the movieverse and I’d LOVE to see the movie designers take on the classic ARAH Viper design. THAT would get me giddy for armybuilding.
But the designs they went with just don’t do it for me. I hate to say I won’t be getting any of these Troopers unless some flash of inspiration for customizing hits. Its too bad too because this could have been an opportunity to create something truly awesome and I feel the movie designers just missed the mark completely.
The figures themselves though look to be very accurate representations of the movie designs. So kudos to Hasbro for translating them well. Just wish they had something more interesting to work from.
I be the dissenting voice here…I love the Neo-Viper. From the death’s head mask to the rifle storage, the muted grey on black to the heavy, yet removable, armor, these guys look prepared to kick all kinds of tail and leave the names to the coroner. Now, I get the love for the classic Viper (Though i have major issues with the 25th Ann. version) but these guys look like they’d wipe the floor with those neon mirror-masks. Armored head to toe, they look like they’d be able to march directly through your line of defense and pillage the village, so to speak. 4-stars from me, for what it’s worth. (not much)
Now, the Viper Commando…crap. I look forward to your views on that one.
