Joefans far and wide are getting their hands on new Rise of COBRA items (present company excluded, unfortunately… :shifty: ) and lots of folks have started showing pictures and giving their thoughts. JoeBattleLines member Duck has posted some VERY nice images in a couple of different threads over there. There are some links and photo mirrors below.

I gotta say…the more pics I see of the COBRA Gunship, the more I’m rethinking my opinion of it. In fact, I swore I wasn’t going to buy any Rise of COBRA vehicles, mostly for budgetary reasons, but seeing this thing and the Steel Crusher (and The Pit for that matter) more in depth…man, I don’t know if I can hold out. Some great looking vehicles that fit in nicely with the Joe movie style. Love all the hidden features, too.
I saw a whole end cap of this stuff today. The 4-inch figures look surprisingly great (though I still hate the feel of the things out of the package, and I also hate the unsightly seam that runs down the front of the legs.)
That said, the vehicles look cheap as hell, and the bigger, blockier, kid-friendly figures suckity suck suck suck. I don’t know why they couldn’t utilize the movie hype as an opportunity to bring back the Sigma scale and, more importantly, the Sigma articulation.
But dude: the big dumb Storm Shadow has a chrome sword! Sweet!
Picked up the Armored Panther last night along with 5 figures. Had to grab it for Thunder and you can never go wrong with an Armadillo. Reminds me of the con version a few years ago.
You know, I’ve been gung-ho for these things from all the photos I’ve been seeing. I even went shopping with my son on the 4th (he was looking to spend the $50 he got from his grandmother for his birthday and ended up buying Transformers). I went a lot of places, but nobody was selling the GI Joe movie stuff. Then, at our last stop in Target, I found two movie vehicles, and they were the ones I’ve been wanting: the Cobra Gunship and the Cobra Hummer H2.
And then, all the air went out of my balloon.
The packaging on these things is really small, so I can’t imagine the vehicles themselves being very big either. But the real kicker was the price: $24.99!!! I’m sorry, but I can’t justify spending $50 for two smallish vehicles. That’s how much the 25th Rattler and Conquest were selling for.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still excited for the movie, and I’m not trying to be negative…I was just really bummed out. I’ve really been wanting these vehicles, but in person they underwhelmed me in size and overwhelmed me in price.
I think the helmet of Firefly from the Cobra Gunship will eventually fill the next M.A.S.K. figure–Matt Tracker’s nemisis, Miles Mayhem and his venom-spitting Viper mask.
