So far I haven’t been willing to give this the shot it probably deserves. I’m not real big on the “camp” nature of Batman or the Golden Age of super hero comics, I much prefer my world gritty and serious…does that make me a bad comic fan? 😉
Anyway, from the time I first heard that Brave and the Bold would be going the way of the campy 60’s Batman “feel” I didn’t even give it a fair shake. Am I wrong for that? I’ve checked out a few clips here and there, and it looks okay, but just wondering if I should give it a full blown shot. I’m in an animated daze right now with Wolverine and the X-Men, Clone Wars, Transformers: Animated, and especially Spectacular Spider-Man…should I add one more to the list?
Check out the clips:
You’re not a bad comics fan. Fans are not suppossed to like everything just because it has character X in it or its written by writer Y.
I’ve checked out B & B myself. i will admit its not as bad as I thought. However, I still can’t into it.
I like the show. It’s fun, and it gives spotlight to some characters that don’t get much screentime.
Plus, as campy as it is, it is refreshing to see some lighter takes on characters.
Give it a serious shot. You’re not gona be amazed like with Transformers and the awesomeness that is Spider-Man (geeze, that’s a good show!!) but this new Batman show is great for what it is. You gotta love toons in some way, though. TF and Spider-Man are both funny and great in the drama area, with episodes that connect and weave an amazing story when compared to the stuff we grew up with. Batman: The Brave and the bold is not that.
What it is, though, is a fun romp with Batman at the helm. It saves the drama and pumps up the action and laughs, and I found it pretty dang funny. Then again, I’m the guy who takes Batman as an answer whenever he’s played in Apples to Apples. So I’m ALL for a show that has Batman being bascially invincible for no reason other than the fact that He’s Batman.
So just throw all the connection to story aside and enjoy the show for some laughs, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I tried to watch the first episode and it turned me off about as much as the new Transformers Animated series. So if you liked that, you might be willing to be more accepting of the show. I however was so enamored with The Batman that this series just makes me mad on many levels.
You should watch the show, it’s fun, well written, funny, the animation is better than half the shows on cartoon network. The main reason to watch is if your a DC Comics fan the guest stars are not who you would think.
I think that’s part of my problem, too, DiRT. I was a huge “The Batman” fan, and it kind of bummed me out when we lost that in favor of yet another “reboot”, with absolutely zero connection to anything before it. But yeah, I do like TF: Animated, so maybe I’ll give it a whirl, especially if Alexx endorses it. 😉
Oh also, this Batman seriously has a way out of everything. He got buried alive in this last episode, and had an out of body experience thanks to a technique he learned from tibetan monks.
It’s hilarious.
I actually enjoy the amount of continuity they include in the series. Batman seems to be the same old serious guy. His foes, though many have a goofy concept, they are handled superbly with little campiness and alot of action!
I think the Batman franchise has run it’s full course in the last 10-15 years or so. With the release of “The Dark Knight” being the pinnacle. It’s time to start over again from the campy/kiddy point of view. Eventually it will evolve again to the dark & gritty. But it will be a long time coming.
I like it a lot more than I thought I would. It’s campy, and funny, and the fact that they had R. Lee Ermey as the voice of Wildcat is pretty funny. Give it a try, I say!
Although not a fan at the moment, I might be one day. DC Animated properties have a tendency to start out aimed at a simply audience and grow more complex. The Batman, Teen Titans Go etc. followed a similar pattern, whether by design or by natural evolution. At the moment there are at least a few other around to fill in the mid level age range toons – W. & the Xmen, Ben 10:AF, Clone Wars etc. For a while a couple years back it was heaven for this range – TMNT, Justice League, He-Man, Avatar etc. Ah well…it will come around again. Always does.
I thought “The Batman” was overrated. Didn’t care for the new takes on everyone. Joker was strange, Croc was a TMNT villain, it was silly.
However B & B seems much more fun. I didn’t notice it being that much lighter in tone than Justice League Unlimited to be honest. The episodes with cameos from Book Worm and Egghead and the like sealed it for me. I like what I’ve seen of the show very much.
I’ve seen a few episodes…when I heard Oswald from Drew Carey (and zeta from the zeta project so he does have a connection to batman) was going to voice Batman I wanted to beat my head against a brick wall.
After watching it he does an okay Batman voice. I’m not one for all the camp though or Batman cracking jokes…I like my Batman darker, grittier and brooding. Batman has a reputation to uphold, this doesn’t do it. I’m sure they could have kept Batman’s edge and had the camp with all the guest stars.
It is worth a look, especially if you enjoy the TF Animated (i hate it personally) and the new Spider-man (though well written the animation bugs me, those huge eyes with no pupils).
Oh man, I love this cartoon. It’s a nice style of campy, and is amazing at getting guest stars in there without being overly rediculous about it.
Plus, there was a bit of a Easter Egg in the episode with Red Tornado, as it had a toy doll that looked like Baby Doll from B:TAS.
It’s a real fun series, not really the Batman that I’d prefer, but it’s a nice change of pace for a bit.
