TVShowsonDVD reveals additional details on the complete series DVD set for the Sunbow series slated to come out later this year. While the site to place the order, http://www.gijoecollectorsset.com/ is still listed as “Under Construction”, we know that the complete series set will contain 17 discs and retail for $145.00 (including standard US shipping).

TVShowsonDVD.com has posted a full-blown press release for the upcoming Season 1.1 box set of the Sunbow cartoons from Shout! Factory. The press release also makes mention of the impending full series set (17 DVD’s!!!) in the works as well.

Reuters is reporting that the Discovery Channel and Hasbro have formed a joint venture to create a new Children’s TV Network and website that will specialize in children’s programming showcasing many of Hasbro’s brands including G.I. Joe. This specific quote gives a good outline of what to expect:
“Hasbro Inc (HAS.N) and Discovery Communications (DISCA.O) announced a joint venture that includes a television network and website that will carry children’s and family entertainment featuring Hasbro brands like G.I. Joe, My Little Pony and Trivial Pursuit.”

“Both the network and the venture’s online component will feature content from Hasbro’s rich portfolio of entertainment and educational properties built over the past 90 years, including original programming for animation, game shows, and live-action series and specials. New programming will be based on brands such as ROMPER ROOM, TRIVIAL PURSUIT, SCRABBLE, CRANIUM, MY LITTLE PONY, G.I. JOE, GAME OF LIFE, TONKA and TRANSFORMERS, among many others. The TV network and online presence also will include content from Discovery’s extensive library of award-winning children’s educational programming, such as BINDI THE JUNGLE GIRL, ENDURANCE, TUTENSTEIN, HI-5, FLIGHT 29 DOWN and PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD, as well as programming from third-party producers.”
Hmmm… “New programming”? Sounds like a new G.I. Joe animated series may be on the horizon. I wouldn’t necessarily expect Resolute (especially on a kid’s channel) but it’ll be very cool to see what transpires.

Thanks to a reminder from Fred over at JoeBattleLines, Shout! Factory has posted some great details about the upcoming Sunbow Season 1, Part 1 DVD box set that’s currently in the pipeline. This information came through TVShowsonDVD.com as well, and reports the following excellent news:
Shout! Factory has revealed a new “beauty shot” picture of their packaging – including the discs, disc case, outer slipcover and bonus rub-on tatoos – for their upcoming release of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero – Season 1.1 on DVD. This item will be available at general retail starting July 21st<
Around the same time, Shout! will also be making a <G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero – The Complete Series available in a special “footlocker”-style package, but it will only be available for sale initially at the San Diego Comic Con (July 23-26), and then exclusively online at a secure website (the details of which have yet to be revealed). After an undetermined amount of time, the Complete Series set will then be made available in stores.
In the meantime, the coolness factor of these releases has gone up even further, with word from the DVD producer at Shout!’s message boards that he is painstakingly trying to make every effort to deliver the original broadcast versions of every Sunbow-produced episode, where at all possible. And Shout!’s disc-by-disc “track” listing for the Season 1.1 set has been revealed at their official consumer site, including interesting new details about the bonus material.
