Comic Book Resources talks to Chuck Dixon about IDW’s G.I. Joe

Maybe I’m just not paying close enough attention, but I don’t think Chuck Dixon gives many interviews, so when he does, they are usually pretty interesting, and the latest with Comic Book Resources is no different.

Mr. Dixon gives some really interesting perspective about how differently he has to handle the G.I. Joe universe when compared to Larry Hama, and how he is working to make the IDW universe stand apart from what we’ve seen in the past.  It’s a long and very insightful talk with the current writer of G.I. Joe as well as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.

Check it out at Comic Book Resources.  Thanks to Twitter buds Mysterious Stranger and Kord for the information!

GeneralsJoes reviews G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wave 2 Roadblock and Snake Eyes

When the news broke that the G.I. Joe: Retaliation toy line would be getting pushed back to 2013 to be in line with the film release, I held on to desperate hope that Wave 2 at least would still hit retail on time.

That soon proved to be a fruitless hope as online retailers confirmed rumors that beginning immediately all distribution of G.I. Joe: Retaliation figures was being put on hold.  That essentially meant that everything from Wave 2 on was being delayed.  Knowing how cool some the Wave 2 figures looked, I was very disappointed.

Now the only issue with a line getting cut so close to retail release is that production level samples end up out in the wild, and that was definitely the case with these figures as well.  I got my hands on them and I was not disappointed in the end results.  Check out my G.I. Joe: Retaliation review page, or just hit up the links below.

EDIT – I had an old review file uploaded with incorrect “Star Ratings”.  I’ve adjusted them properly and re-uploaded.  Sorry about that!

G.I. Joe themed Mimobot USB Flash drives offer nostalgia, exclusive content

The non-Hasbro G.I. Joe intel keeps coming from San Diego, as Mimoco announces a joint partnership with Hasbro to produce G.I. Joe and Transformers themed USB flash drives, each coming bundled with exclusive digital content as well as an awesome vintage character theme.

The news comes courtesy of Toy News International, and you can check out the full press release and image gallery right here.  There’s also a nifty video to go along with it, which you can view below.  Pretty cool stuff.

Robert Atkins posts an incredible gallery of past covers on his blog

When word came out of the G.I. Joe Convention that Robert Atkins was leaving the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow book with issue #16, I died a little bit on the inside, but hey, he’s still doing some covers so it’s all good!

Speaking of covers, Mr. Atkins recently finished his year long posting frenzy of daily updates to his blog, and celebrated that fact by posting an awesome composite image of every single G.I. Joe cover he’s done to date.  It’s an awesome and nostalgic look back at the past several years in G.I. Joe comic covers, and it really shows how much Robert has grown as an artist over the past few years.

Check out the latest post here, and follow Robert Atkins on Twitter.  I look forward to seeing his covers and hope his skills grace the interiors of a G.I. Joe universe book again soon!

Coverage of IDW Comics Panel from 2012 G.I. Joe Convention

The whole Convention weekend is such a whirlwind, I often don’t have time to reflect on things I missed until afterwards.  And unfortunately I missed a pretty big one this past weekend when I was pulled away during the IDW Comics panel on Saturday.  I had been looking forward to the panel, especially considering Carlos Guzman was the speaker, and he edits my favorite book these days, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.  However, the quick pace of the Con pulled me elsewhere at that same time.

Thankfully, someone was there to bail me out!  Anyone who has read this site or listened to What’s on Joe Mind is probably familiar with Jay, who runs CardedHeroes.com.  Well, his wife Mo (who you can actually hear on the “Ladies’ Night” Special Edition Episode of What’s on Joe Mind) attended JoeCon, and as a huge comic buff, she was front and center for the IDW panel.  I reached out to her, and she was very kind enough to write up a fantastic piece on the IDW panel.

I cannot thank her enough.  I strive to try and have the most in depth and thorough coverage as a I can, and I’m quite disappointed in myself that I wasn’t able to make the IDW panel.  Thank you, Mo, for yanking my butt out of the fire.
