GeneralsJoes reviews IDW G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #162

The fan world was abuzz when this continuation of the Marvel universe was announced, but I know for my own part, I was getting pretty muddled in the brainwave scanner morasse, the crazed artwork was starting to wear on me, and while I appreciate the 90’s era for what it was, I think most folks were hoping for an extension of the earlier decade.  Truth be told, we haven’t had Joe stories of that type for a long while, so that was a stretch to begin with…and the first several issues certainly didn’t help.
But then came issue #161.  While the brainwashing angle was certainly still lingering, the artwork was much cleaner and crisper, the writing took a decidedly more military angle, and things were immediately looking up.  Of course, I was concerned that this was the exception, and not the rule…  what would issue #162 bring?  Check out my review after the jump to find out.

IDW Review Onslaught – G.I. Joe: Cobra #10

While I’ve fallen behind on some of the comics, I try to keep up to date on the G.I. Joe: Cobra title.  Far and away my favorite Joe themed series, I’m constantly amazed by simply how intelligent the writing is.  Mike Costa and Christos Gage manage to really delve into the idea of a shadowy terrorist organization like Cobra and really try to rationalize the concept and have it make sense.  In the old school days, Hama just sort of accepted some things and expected the readers to do the same.  Nothing wrong with that idea in the least, but I really like that this new generation of Cobra is trying to exist within a realistic world and the writing team is trying to breathe life and idealism into Cobra as a whole.
Issue #10 was refreshing.  I had no major issues with the last story arc in this series, but it’s like spending the weekend at your best friend’s house when you were a kid.  During that weekend, life was different, yet still fun, with some adventures.  But then you get back home and go back to your own bed, and suddenly, everything just falls into place.  The weekend was fun, sure, but there’s nothing like home, and getting thrust back into the Chuckles and Cobra Commander arc was like coming back home.

GeneralsJoes Reviews IDW's G.I. Joe #18

I know I haven’t been posting many reviews lately for the IDW titles, even though I’ve been enjoying them much more than I had recently.  I figured I should change that for G.I. Joe #18.  Written by Chuck Dixon with art by SL Gallant, the main G.I. Joe title started off quite slowly, and has taken a while to build…but it has been building.
There are spoilers in this review, so click the “Read the rest of this entry” link below to check it out.
