A few days ago, I posted an updated lowdown of episode titles from G.I. Joe: Renegades, pulled from the MSN TV Listings. Well, those listings have been updated somewhat, but not with more titles, this time with just a bit more detail.
Episode 3: The Package has been confirmed to include Major Bludd, with the following tagline:
“Major Bludd tracks down a target for assassination.”
Once again, the plot looks to take a somewhat dark turn, which is a welcome thing for this new generation of G.I. Joe…and Major Bludd is yet another reason why I’m really looking forward to the Renegades animation. As someone who loves the mythology behind the G.I. Joe universe, I’m really looking forward to how they rebuild this universe and how they reinvent some of these characters. Should be cool. Keep your eyes peeled to the GeneralsJoes G.I. Joe: Renegades SuperPage for all of the latest Renegades news and intel. Episode 3 airs for the first time Friday, December 3rd at 5:00pm.

While I understand that many folks bemoan the G.I. Joe film, it’s tough to argue that both the 25th Anniversary line as well as the Rise of Cobra event have brought a bunch more Joe fans to the table, which is especially cool because that means a bunch of cool new G.I. Joe fan projects end up emerging.
HissTank forum member Jimmy McWicked is the latest fan that has really made me sit up and say “Wow!” with his strongly animated-influenced fan art inspired by G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. Every time someone cries foul about the fact that G.I. Joe: Renegades might have animated influences, I see stuff like this and say “so freaking what?” This is some of the coolest, most inspired fan art that I’ve seen in a very long time.
Jimmy McWicked can also be found on Deviant Art where you can peruse more of his fantastic work. Check out some of the mirrored images below.

Sometimes it’s good having geeks in the right places… Brian Truitt at USA Today is an unabashed toy, comic, and media geek, and as such, gets some great opportunities to interview folks connected to those properties and share them with us!
Over on USA Today, Mr. Truitt has posted a great interview with Max Brooks, who talks quite a bit about G.I. Joe: Hearts and Minds the new limited series he’s writing for IDW. The interview is littered with great insight and information, and even discusses some characters from Hearts and Minds:
“Some choices have been controversial, he says. At first, Brooks couldn’t use Major Bludd (because he’s starring in a subplot in Chuck Dixon’s G.I. Joe book) or Spirit. “I think they were afraid of coming from a point of view of the standard stereotypical Indian,” Brook says. “That’s actually what piqued my interest, when they said Hasbro doesn’t want to offend people. It was barely passable in the ’80s, and is just not acceptable now.”
In subsequent issues, Brooks has a Blowtorch story that discusses whether using fire is a humane form of warfare, and a tale about explosives expert Tripwire, “who doesn’t have a death wish but is in a situation where he can’t lose — that’s how he looks at it,” Brooks says. “The character of Doc deals with an issue of medical malpractice, which hits very close to home. With Dr. Mindbender, instead of making him the traditional mad scientist, I wanted to deal with the issue of religion vs. science and ethics vs. science.”
The interview also reveals that Max Brooks was a Joe fan as a kid, and that he contributed a short story to a collection of G.I. Joe related prose that is possibly in the works. Check out the full interview right here, and be sure to add Brian Truitt’s Twitter Page to your favorites and follow him!

Yeah, we all saw the 3-minute Operation: HISS animation that was…well… not so great. Obviously somewhat chopped together on a low budget and made for the lowest common denominator, there wasn’t really much to write home about.
The Operation: HISS comic from IDW, on the other hand…that’s definitely showing some promise. While it didn’t get rave reviews from IGN, the reviewers from HissTank and The Terror Drome both saw something to look forward to, and the image of the variant cover to issue #2 is absolutely kicking my ass. Major Bludd in reactive armor? Sweetness. Love the repurposed NATO armored vehicles as Cobra tanks is great, too.
So for folks out there who are interested in reading a bit more about the Rise of Cobra universe (like me) this is a nice surprise. Click the links below to check out the reviews:
