Preview of IDW Publishing Free Comic Book Day Transformers vs G.I. Joe

Ever since it was first announced with Scioli at the helm, I’ve been fascinated by the prospect of this new Transformers vs. G.I. Joe series.  Scioli has a tremendously vintage artistic style, and judging by this preview, that style is infused throughout the entire story as well as the art.

The first issue apparently starts out with a bang, as G.I. Joe charges en masse into a Cobra compound, facing deadly creeper vines, Dr. Venom, and Major Bludd.  All after a cool sequence between Starscream and Bumblebee, of course.

It’s an interesting aesthetic.  I’m sure there will be some Joe fans who are a bit turned off by the distinctive look and feel, but I kinda love it.  It calls back to a simpler time, and I love that things are pretty wide open.  Once you see Snake Eyes in action, you’ll know what I mean.

Great photo set for cover of upcoming G.I. Joe: ARAH #200

Over on his Tumblr page, Chris Ryall, editor in chief for IDW Publishing has posted a fantastic photo set showing the progression of the cover artwork for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #200.  It shows the initial sketch by Larry Hama, with pencils & inks by SL Gallant, and then the final cover image.

I love the dichotomy between the classic Duke and Cobra Commander and the Pursuit of Cobra HISS…very interesting to read, too, that Gallant is now officially the longest tenure artist on the title.  That is shocking, but very cool as well.  It certainly helps that I’m a huge fan of his work.

Check out the photo set below.

Preview for IDW G.I. Joe (Season 3) #13

If Paul Allor’s work on G.I. Joe Issue #12 is any indication, we’re going to be the lucky ones once Issue #13 hits comic stores tomorrow.  Diving back into the past of the Cobra organization, Allor managed to weave a very interesting historical tale, and nicely develop various different Cobra Commanders from centuries past, even though he only had a few pages to devote to each one.

This next issue continues that look back into the depths of Cobra’s history, and I’m excited to check it out.  Until then, take a peek at the preview below.

IDW G.I. Joe Solicitations for April, 2014 reveals no more Special Missions

Wow, sad news for fans of Chuck Dixon’s G.I. Joe: Special Missions title as apparently after April, 2014, IDW Publishing will no longer be producing the title.  That leaves the main G.I. Joe title as the only “IDW” continuity G.I. Joe ongoing title still telling the story of this new G.I. Joe and Cobra conflict.

It brings to mind the question of how well these books are selling and if there’s enough fan demand to continue bringing IDW’s G.I. Joe to local comic stores on a monthly basis.

Paul Allor continues his work on the flagship title while we deal with the ramifications of issue #200 in the Real American Hero universe.  Check out the full solicitation list below.

Preview for IDW Publishing G.I. Joe: The Cobra Files #9

Well, this is it.  The very last issue of Mike Costa’s amazing take on the modern G.I. Joe universe.  A twisted tale of intrigue, drama, and deep characterization, the Cobra (and thus, the Cobra Files) have helped redefine how the G.I. Joe universe as a whole is conceived.

Bug kudos to Costa, Gage, and Antonio Fuso who helped steer this ship from the very beginning.  The preview for this landmark issue is below.  Be sure to pick it up at comic shops tomorrow and see how it all ends.
