GeneralsJoes reviews G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #201

The landmark 200th issue of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero was the big story what seems like just a few weeks ago, so I was surprised to see the next issue already slated for release this past Wednesday.  I was quite pleasantly surprised, I should say, simply because while I enjoyed issue #200, I didn’t feel like it presented an impactful closure to the current story, and I was hoping to see how things continued to evolve.

As it turns out, issue #201 seems like more of a set up issue, but it’s still a quite enjoyable one.  Check out the full review after the jump.

GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #200

As a collective, Marvel G.I. Joe fans have been hotly anticipating this huge release for quite a while now, and finally that day has arrived!  Larry Hama and SL Gallant have teamed up to bring G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #200 to Joe fans everywhere, and it also marks Gallant as the longest running artist in the book’s history!  That seems unbelievable, but it’s true.

Personally, I couldn’t be happier.  Gallant has a great artistic style, and is able to infuse character and dramatic action, while also being very faithful in the representation of realistic elements like weapons and vehicles.  It’s a critical mixture of skills that not many artists can capture.  Gallant does it perfectly.  I couldn’t be more pleased that he now has this landmark to his name, and I am greatly looking forward to his continuing run on this great book.

Awesome education about the world of toy production

If you’re a G.I. Joe fan on Facebook, but are not a member of the G.I. Joe Discussion Facebook group, you are really missing out on some great insight.

Some really fun conversations can be had there, but aside from that, we also get some really great perspective about toy making in general.

Today Gary “Gyre Viper” Head posted a fantastic conversation with a former Hasbro employee who gave him a terrific run down of how certain elements of toy production are performed, and even went through a rough timeline from concept to tooling and production.  These are some great insights into that magical world of toy building that have been somewhat lost in the ether of corporate oversight and management.  This is where the magic happened, and if you’re a toy fan, you owe yourself to check this stuff out.

Hit up this thread on the G.I. Joe Discussion Facebook group to see some great detail on the making of a vehicle from the Real American Hero line.  You’ll feel better for it after wards!

Audio posted for Planet ComicCon G.I. Joe 50th Anniversary Panel!

Shame on me!  I missed the email notification, but Rob from Joe A Day posted the audio from the Planet ComicCon G.I. Joe: 50th Anniversary panel that he told us all about a short while ago.

Appearing on the panel with him are the infamous Twitziller and Brian from Codename: Iowa.  A really great trio of hardcore G.I. Joe fans who represented the brand very well.

Check out the audio at Joe A Day.com and enjoy the panel!  Kudos to these guys for spreading the word of the G.I. Joe brand!
