We all heard plenty about Kwinn and this “mystery” wave that he was slated to be a part of at the tail end of the 30th Anniversary line. Well, with thanks to Viper Commando from HissTank.com we now have a bit more information about this mystery wave that unfortunately never came to be.
He reports that while digging into the Wal-Mart computer system for 30th Anniversary inventory, he stumbled upon the following series of figures:
KWINN
DATA-VIPER
CRIMSON GUARD
NIGHT-VIPER
MODERN FLINT
He hypothosizes that perhaps this was a final wave of 30th Anniversary figures, and it certainly seems to fit that theme. And of course, the revelation of this series of figures is causing folks to proclaim that this would have been the best wave evah!!1 but such is the nature of fandom at large.
What I find most interesting is with all of the complaints I’ve seen online about the Crimson Guard and Night Viper, folks are absolutely positive that this wave would have been amazing…we’ve obviously seen Kwinn and we know what to expect there. Data-Viper as well. So really the only unknown here is “Modern Flint”. I would have absolutely loved to have seen a Modern Flint in the 30th Anniversary/Pursuit of Cobra style, but considering he’s a main character in Retaliation, I’m sure we may see a similar theme down the road.
Word from Hasbro is still that we will get Kwinn out there somehow, some way, so here’s hoping that the bulk of this wave will see the light of day. Certainly interesting to see this come to pass, and thanks to Viper Commander for the info.
No, it’s not a review of the as yet non-existent G.I. Joe: Renegades Season 1, which makes me a very sad panda. But Transformers: Prime is a pretty darn good series in its own right, and seeing this action-packed animation in Blu-Ray quality is a sight to behold!
I had a chance to check this full season out extensively, and I can say it’s better than watching it the first time around, especially if you don’t have The Hub in HD (I don’t).
Check out my review of Season One of Transformers: Prime at the link below!
The next great G.I. Joe fan film endeavor looks to be G.I. Joe: Initiate, and over on their action-packed Facebook page, they’ve revealed a new player in the game… Major Bludd!
Check out the image below. Also, I’m excited to say that the film reached its Kickstarter goal, but they are still accepting donations to improve the production quality of the film! You can hit up their Kickstarter Page and still donate. Make it happen.

Various members of the fan community have been reaching out to Hasbro in many different ways to express their displeasure over the credit card security issues within Fun Publications, and Fun Publications’ reaction to those issues. Through their PR firm, Hasbro has released the following statement:
“To the G.I. Joe and Transformers fan communities and Fun Publications customers,
Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention and for giving Hasbro the opportunity to respond to a matter that impacts its G.I. Joe and Transformers brands. Please know we take all consumer concerns very seriously and are in regular contact with Fun Publications (our licensee) about the possibility of a breach in security to their online purchasing system for the G.I. Joe and Transformers Collectors’ Clubs. Fun Publications is also taking this matter very seriously and is diligently working at identifying any problems, the number of customers affected and ways to ensure it does not happen to any more customers. Hasbro wants consumers to have a positive experience at all touch points for its brands, including transactions with its licensees. As such, we are confident that Fun Publications has detailed instructions and pertinent information available for those consumers who believe they may have been targeted by credit theft via their portals.
Based on our extensive conversations with the Fun Publications team Hasbro wants to convey the following to the fan communities:
Fun Publications has assured us that they are taking necessary measures to curb additional issues, and they are working with third party experts to identify the problem. They anticipate knowing and communicating the cause of the breach as soon as possible to those affected.
— They believe that the number of customers affected is low relative to the volume of sales transactions made.
— However, if you believe fraudulent charges have been made to your credit card after making a purchase with any portals for the G.I. Joe or Transformers Collectors’ Clubs, we urge you to contact Fun Publications immediately and provide them with the information requested at <https://www.transformersclub.com/tccccinfo.cfm> or <http://gijoeclub.com/ccinfo.cfm> by using the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of these pages.
— Fun Publications can also be reached at the following number for additional consumer affairs inquiries relating to the G.I. Joe and Transformers Collectors’ Clubs at (817) 448-9863during regular business hours.
— As more information becomes available, they will be contacting all affected customers who have notified them about the issue.
Thank you again to all of the fans of our Transformers and G.I. Joe brands for their continued support and for the opportunity to respond to this matter.”
The ultimate resolution of this situation remains unknown, but here’s hoping things get back to normal for all involved.
A short while ago we heard rumor that a potential follow up for G.I. Joe: Renegades is potentially in the early stages, so this should really come as no surprise, since any animated series in the “discussion” phase would be for programming not slated to begin until late 2013…but for the sake of full coverage, The Hub has issued a press release confirming their line up of programming for late 2012 and early 2013.
As expected, no G.I. Joe to be found.
The press release can be found on Discovery’s Corporate Media Page, and I’ve also mirrored it after the jump.
The awesome SpecOps Podcast has just kicked off, and is already making some serious waves. The first episode slammed the fandom with the unproduced Cobra Island playset and some fantastic concept art behind it, and Episode 2 certainly is not letting up.
With a very well informed and opinionated crew, they tackle the whole Toy Fair 2012 fall out and discuss the controversy over articulation and the direction of the toyline. But that’s not all! Fresh from a stint in Afghanistan, JoeDeClassified owner Sam “Nomad” Damon stops by and drops some knowledge on us about the Wave 5 Night Viper and Crimson Guard!
Stop reading my words, and go check it out right now. Hit up the Podbean page, or listen to the embedded player below.
Anyone who doubts the validity of the fabled o-ring format, may want to prepare to change their minds. Straight from SlayerCon 2 in Baltimore,
Maryland, the guys behind the Project: ARAH subscription service have been sending along picture updates of the figures that will be available
from the service including Pythona and the snipers!
These look awesome.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of how the modern style figures have evolved to this point, but there is something about totally new and totally
different o-ring figures that gets me completely geeked out in a way that the modern figures don’t. And these figures are truly geek worthy.
Check out some mirrored images below, but also make sure you’re checking the Old School Creations and Project: ARAH Facebook page for more
updates. Wow, I cannot freaking WAIT to get these in hand! I’ll be buying paints and getting ready to paint ’em up very shortly.
Impressive.
Don’t forget, for the latest and greatest Project: ARAH information, keep your eyes on their forums.

There are also some great YouTube videos available as well:
The folks behind The Comix Verse are friends of the site and are making a push to bring their network of sites into the mainstream…doing a great job of it, too. They’ve posted a very good and enlightening interview with IDW editor John Barber, who is one of the guys editing the G.I. Joe stable of titles, and also the writer of the impressive G.I. Joe: Retaliation Prequel limited series. He lets loose some insight about what might be coming after Cobra Command, and the interview even showcases some nice preview pages!
