I would expect more and more sites to start following the trend, but up for pre-order right now on Walmart.com is the upcoming G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Season 1 Part 1 DVD set from Shout! Factory. These DVD sets promise to hopefully finally get the entire Sunbow series out on DVD and available in mass markets for fans (new and old) to purchase.

TVShowsonDVD reports that Shout! Factory is moving forward with Sunbow’s G.I. Joe animated series, releasing Season 1, Part 1 on DVD July 21st, just prior to the Rise of COBRA’s release in August.
Shout! Factory is the company behind the Transformers season sets hitting this year as well. Reports are this is a 4 disc DVD set with some “ambitious” plans for bonus features.

Geek satire website Topless Robot takes aim at the original G.I. Joe animated movie with a list of the 10 Most Ridiculous Things about the Original G.I. Joe Movie (besides COBRA La).
With a bevy of YouTube clips (some by yours truly… :shifty: ) they cover everything from Quick Kick’s questionable arctic attire to Snake Eyes being bitch-slapped by a Royal Guard. Entertaining to say the least! Check it out here.
It was initially thought that the fifth DVD Battle Pack would be a pack focused on the ’87 Movie, and from the figure selection, it’s obvious that’s what Hasbro was planning as well. Every figure in the fifth set includes figures definitely inspired by that movie, but something changed down the line. My own personal hypothesis is that Hasbro is planning on re-releasing a commemorative version of the movie on DVD this year to coincide with the live action film, so rather than “give it away” in this set, they’re holding it to sell it as a separate piece this summer.
Folks who have been checking the site have seen me do “memorable moments” posts for all of the mini-series so far, coinciding with the release of those DVD Battle Packs. Well, we all know the “Best Of” Battle Pack was originally meant to be a Movie-themed one, and in fact, all of the figures in the pack are definitely inspired by the Movie opening. Because of this, I decided to do a “memorable moments” article for G.I. Joe: The Movie.
Like the Pyramids of Darkness, this mini-series pushed things a lot further into the science fiction realm, but I still found it fairly enjoyable. Granted, it was probably the one I liked the least of the 4 mini-series, but it still had it’s share of moments. I’ve never been a Sgt. Slaughter fan, I really disliked how the cartoon portrayed Serpentor, and the second season altogether just didn’t work well for me. In spite of that, though, I have to appreciate the mini-series itself, and there are a few great moments I want to talk about.
