It started off as strange, obscure hints several months ago…a Revolution was coming. Then word came out and things really heated up with lots of discussion revolving around this big combined Hasbro universe event bringing together diverse brands into one cohesive world.
So it’s official… the Revolution has arrived. It started with Rom and with Revolution #1 this month (though technically the prelude kicked it off a couple of weeks ago). So was it worth the wait? Is it an event worthy of the Revolution title?
Read below to find out, though fair warning – Spoilers are aplenty!

Revolution #1 has been released and a couple of the excellent variant covers have been produced by Adam Riches, who is well known to G.I. Joe fans as one of the artists of the Figure Subscription Service cardbacks.
He has done a couple of fantastic variant covers, and he has listed some of his original art on eBay. One of the auctions is the Optimus Prime/Scarlett action figure cover and it looks really great.
Any G.I. Joe or Transformers fan should check out his listings on eBay now and get these great pieces while the getting is good.

IDW Publishing has dropped some very cool news with the announcement of a new ongoing title spinning out of their “Revolution” event happening now!
Once Revolution wraps, a brand new ongoing title “Revolutionaries” will make its debit featuring a unique combination of characters from the various Hasbro franchises working in concert with each other. Comic Book Resources dropped the scoop yesterday, with IDW sending out an official press release today.
So why is this exciting? Well, Revolutionaries will feature some serious connective tissue to all manners of G.I. Joe continuity, including Action Man, a new character named Mayday, as well as some other really cool news. According to John Barber:
Well, the first issue reprints — for the first time — the Joe Kubert “Sgt. Savage and His Screaming Eagles” G.I. Joe mini-comics. That’s a set of characters I don’t really have a personal connection with, those came out while I was, let’s say, between ages where I was into G.I. Joe toys. I don’t know what people think of those characters, but it’s really bonkers stuff. I mean, they had little in-pack comics and they got Joe Kubert to write, draw, color and letter them. The legendary Joe Kubert! The premise of Sgt. Savage is pretty nuts, but within that storyline is a group called I.R.O.N. — the International Robotic Operations Network — who show up in issue one of “Revolutionaries.” Meanwhile, in “G.I. Joe Extreme,” there was the Iron Klaw, and in “Action Force” there was Baron Ironblood. Is there a connection?!?
He also mentions that an event in Kalistan is what kicks off the whole Revolutionaries title, and any G.I. Joe fan worth their salt knows Kalistan was the country that Iron Klaw ruled while secretly also creating the insidious terrorist organization called S.K.A.R.
Sounds like some very cool side elements being brought into this world. Check out the article on CBR for some more great insight and the full press release is below.
Revolution Paves Way For Revolutionaries
Revolution Paves Way For Revolutionaries
A New Team of Hasbro Characters Unite To Form REVOLUTIONARIES
San Diego, CA (September 1, 2016) – REVOLUTION was only the beginning! Once the dust settles on Revolution, IDW’s groundbreaking event series that catapulted a new comic book universe into existence, heroes and villains will rise from the ashes to form new alliances and take on even greater challenges in this brave new comic world.
REVOLUTIONARIES will be born.
A G.I. Joe, a man of action, and a few Cybertronians thrown in for good measure, will form the basis of a team unlike any ever conceived before.
REVOLUTIONARIES, the latest addition to the first wave of post-Revolution titles, will further explore and shape the fledgling comic universe which encompasses TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE, ROM, MICRONAUTS, ACTION MAN, and M.A.S.K.: MOBILE ARMORED STRIKE KOMMAND.
This series will reunite Revolution writer John Barber and artist Fico Ossio and will team characters from every corner of this action-packed series, showcasing a full slate of mind-blowing guest stars, including both old favorites and exciting new additions. In addition to the regular players of Action Man, Blackrock (Transformers), Mayday (G.I. Joe), and Kup (Transformers), Revolutionaries will feature a rotating cast of teammates, opening the door for dream team-ups from issue to issue. These Revolutionaries will band together over the course of the unraveling central storyline, a mysterious plot, that serves as the backbone throughout the series.
