The teasers about the debut of the Oktober Guard have been handled really well, making it sound like a pretty major G.I. Joe universe event, which is cool in my eyes. In the Marvel Universe, Larry treated the Oktober Guard pretty seriously, making them very impactful members of the G.I. Joe continuity, but they haven’t really gotten that much love in the toy world. Sure we got the excellent comic packs in 2004, and of course the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club just blew us away with the Operation: Bear Trap Convention set, but beyond that, to folks who only know G.I. Joe through the cartoons and retail shelves, the Oktober Guard is relatively invisible.
Mike Costa and Antonio Fuso jump right into the world of these Russian Special Forces troops and take them in pretty different directions. But what was the end result?

News out of NYCC about the changes to the G.I. Joe titles within IDW has caused some speculation about 2013 titles…the official IDW solicitations have been released and now we know at least a little about the wrap ups to the current slates of G.I. Joe titles. Issue #21 is now confirmed as the final issue for these current iterations of the G.I. Joe comic universe as things evolve into the new G.I. Joe title, Cobra Files, and Special (Secret?!) Missions.
Curious that IDW chose #21 as significant issues in this case, and I’d imagine we’ll see some creative ways to look at this landmark G.I. Joe issue number, which we all recognize clearly.
Be aware that spoilers will likely be sprinkled throughout, considering these are comics slated to come out in January. Click the Read the Rest of the Story link below for the full run down.

With the last major IDW event Cobra Command I made a concerted effort to review each and every installment so I could see how the story progressed as a whole. When I review a book I tend to dive more deeply into it myself and truly absorb it better as I prepare to write an article about it.
Well, I’m already behind the eight ball with Target: Snake Eyes considering I missed the chance to review G.I. Joe #18 last week, but I’m going to endeavor to cover as much of this story as I can.

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to sit down and review one of IDW’s G.I. Joe comics, but I wanted to try and dedicate some time this week, considering the changes coming to the titles next year. I figured it might be a good time to get an idea of the current direction of these books and where things might go in 2013 and beyond.
Of course the first review I’m doing is for the Real American Hero book which actually isn’t being affected by the changes next year, but I gotta go with what I love, right?

Fred Van Lente was just announced as the new writer of the IDW G.I. Joe comic this past weekend, but already he’s been the focus of an interview on Oh! Entertainment. It looks as if the interview was done during NYCC and reveals some cool information about what to expect from the title going forward.
Lots of good insight from the new writer and some tidbits for comic fans.
Check out it right here.
