G.I. Joe Solicitations from IDW Publishing – May, 2014

We’re on the verge of some huge events in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #200, and with Paul Allor wrapping up his run on G.I. Joe, what’s up next for our American Heroes?

Turns out… not a whole heck of a lot.  🙁

May solicitations have hit from IDW Publishing, and we have one title on the list.  G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #202 throws us back into the RAH world, but as of this moment, there doesn’t appear to be a main IDW-verse G.I. Joe title on the list.  We knew that Paul Allor’s run would last for four issues (which should wrap in April) but there is currently no apparent heir to that G.I. Joe throne.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t a plan in place, but apparently that plan will not involve the month of May.

I’ve reached out to IDW to see if I can figure out what’s up, but until I get a response, check out the solicitations for May, 2014 after the jump.

Preview of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero from Comic Book Resources

Okay, now that my brain has stopped exploding from the combination of awesome witnessed in this preview, I can write a little post about it.

CBR sat down and chatted with Larry Hama about his run on G.I. Joe comics, and looked towards March and the release of G.I. Joe #200.  We get a little insight into what to expect with this landmark issue, but best of all, a few preview pages are shown including the best image I’ve ever seen:

SL Gallant + G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero + Sigma 6 themed Cobra Commander.

My soul is smiling.

Check out the whole article right here, and brace yourself for some great images of a Cobra army of HISS Tanks preparing to face off against the G.I. Joe team with some truly great old school vibe to it.  I’ve mirrored one image below, but the rest are over at CBR.

Preview of IDW Publishing Free Comic Book Day Transformers vs G.I. Joe

Ever since it was first announced with Scioli at the helm, I’ve been fascinated by the prospect of this new Transformers vs. G.I. Joe series.  Scioli has a tremendously vintage artistic style, and judging by this preview, that style is infused throughout the entire story as well as the art.

The first issue apparently starts out with a bang, as G.I. Joe charges en masse into a Cobra compound, facing deadly creeper vines, Dr. Venom, and Major Bludd.  All after a cool sequence between Starscream and Bumblebee, of course.

It’s an interesting aesthetic.  I’m sure there will be some Joe fans who are a bit turned off by the distinctive look and feel, but I kinda love it.  It calls back to a simpler time, and I love that things are pretty wide open.  Once you see Snake Eyes in action, you’ll know what I mean.

Great photo set for cover of upcoming G.I. Joe: ARAH #200

Over on his Tumblr page, Chris Ryall, editor in chief for IDW Publishing has posted a fantastic photo set showing the progression of the cover artwork for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #200.  It shows the initial sketch by Larry Hama, with pencils & inks by SL Gallant, and then the final cover image.

I love the dichotomy between the classic Duke and Cobra Commander and the Pursuit of Cobra HISS…very interesting to read, too, that Gallant is now officially the longest tenure artist on the title.  That is shocking, but very cool as well.  It certainly helps that I’m a huge fan of his work.

Check out the photo set below.

Got any G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero questions for IDW? Check this out!

With the landmark 200th issue of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero on the way from IDW Publishing, the editorial team is looking to bring back the always exciting Postbox: The Pit letter’s page!

Over on the IDW Publishing forums, editor Carlos Guzman has opened a thread asking for questions to be submitted for the letter’s page for Issue #200, and apparently Larry Hama himself will endeavor to answer them!

Check out the forums right here to contribute.
