It’s tough to argue that probably the most pre-eminent issue of G.I. Joe was issue #21. The silent issue not only kick-started the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry, but also redefined the art form of comic story telling, and inspired many others to attempt the same feat (with varying degrees of success).
IDW Publishing is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of this landmark comic event with a special “remastered” and oversized edition of this issue:
“SILENT INVASION! The story that defined a generation – G.I. Joe #21 – remastered from the original art and lovingly recolored to the highest of contemporary standards. This wordless issue introduced the world to Snake Eye’s mysterious nemesis Storm Shadow and his Arashikage Ninja – and they’ve never looked better. Plus, catch an unprecedented glimpse of Larry Hama’s original layouts and Steve Leialoha’s finishes, and a look behind the scenes of the comic’s creation – and at its enduring legacy! Contains all-new commentary by Larry Hama!”
The additional commentary by Larry Hama sounds worth the price of admission in and of itself. Check out the Pre-Order information on Amazon, this looks like a fun one.

Tomorrow marks the final issue in the latest run of IDW’s main G.I. Joe title, with a promised relaunch coming this fall entitled (unironically) “The Fall of G.I. Joe”. It’s not a rebooting of continuity, though, in my understanding, simply the next stage in IDW’s G.I. Joe mythology.
Until then, check out the preview for G.I. Joe #15, which hits stores tomorrow.

The landmark 200th issue of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero was the big story what seems like just a few weeks ago, so I was surprised to see the next issue already slated for release this past Wednesday. I was quite pleasantly surprised, I should say, simply because while I enjoyed issue #200, I didn’t feel like it presented an impactful closure to the current story, and I was hoping to see how things continued to evolve.
As it turns out, issue #201 seems like more of a set up issue, but it’s still a quite enjoyable one. Check out the full review after the jump.

Well, sort of. IDW Publishing held their panel at WonderCon today, and in attendance were John Barber and Carlos Guzman, who both have pitched in with editing duties for various G.I. Joe titles over the past few years.
Comic Book Resources was in attendance and there was quite a bit said about the upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe title by Barber and Tom Scioli, mentioning the Free Comic Book Day issue hitting May 3rd. They also reiterated that G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero will continue as normal.
The “big news” was that the main IDW continuity will pick up in September. We’ve already seen a teaser image and heard the tagline “Fall of G.I. Joe”, so it sounds like this should hit us in September, so keep an eye out for those solicitations.

Get it while it’s hot! Issue #14 marks the grand finale of IDW’s G.I. Joe: Special Missions title, which was a rocky replacement for the Snake Eyes solo book that never really seemed to catch on with Joe fans or other readers.
The last issue is hitting comic shops tomorrow, so grab it while you can, and then wait for “The Fall of G.I. Joe” which should be coming later this year.
